My Top 53 Records Of 2008

26. Dez. 2008, 21:21

Looking at the list of albums/EPs I heard in 2008, followed by a shorter list of those that were actually good, there aren't many themes that appear to dominate. Sure there were a load of fantastic garage-pop records that cumulatively cost less than one Axl Rose vocal track (in a year where every big band seemed to release a substandard comeback record, Chinese Democracy was arguably the worst), while Vampire Weekend were the only 'buzz' band, in my humble opinion, who actually deserved the hype. Black Kids? Delightful EP, awful awful album. Glasvegas? Their self-titled debut sure wasn't a Psychocandy. And not in the year of the My Bloody Valentine reunion, cheers. Fleet Foxes? Actually they were amazing. So here are the 53 records (the rules have been manipulated somewhat) that held varying degrees of meaning for me throughout the last twelve months. Not much threads them together, except for being brilliant. By turns daring, experimental, joyous, eye-opening and plain thrilling. 41 in ABC order, followed by the Top 10. Feel free to add your own lists/constructive criticism below!
