I recently bought a new phone, and there are times that I think that it was a mistake not to buy an iPod instead. Thing is, I had so coveted that particular phone model because it looked really sleek and sexy (which I am not, by the way). It came with a media player and a 500MB memory card; however, I soon found out that even at maximum volume, the music couldn't drown out the noise of the traffic as I traveled a total of four hours in public transport vehicles everyday. So I started using my old 120MB mp3 player again.

I've had my mp3 player for over a year now. At that time, it was one of the cheapest models available (although now I can get something with a 1Gig disk space for about the same price – life isn't fair lol). Since the day I had it, I couldn't imagine commuting to school or work without music. I get fidgety when I run out of juice in the middle of a trip, and as I realize, I couldn't really take listening to other people's conversations, or crappy music on the radio, or the rumble of the engine as the bus speeds along the superhighway. I'd be asleep half of the time while commuting, but I still want something plugged in my ears anyway. And when I'm awake while in the bus or jeep, just looking out the window with nothing to distract me is the best time to really listen to music. I could really take it all in and just focus on the sound – Koide's voice in Crazy for You no Kisetsu, Hisako's lead in Urban Guitar Sayonara, Ahito's awesome drumming in Cramp Discharger (I can never get the right timing for that song, unfortunately), the meaning of Mappiruma Girl's lyrics, Ki ni shitenaiyo fondly reminding me of The Smiths… I can go on and on about the uplifting feeling that I get from just listening to music that I love. No kidding, it's one of the things that really keeps me happy in spite of all that stress at work and school.

I could only fit as many as 31 songs there, and these days I'm too lazy to change my playlist that often because it's a bitch to be changing the bitrate so I can cram more songs into it. No matter. I'm loving my playlist right now, though I still wish that I could add more. Like, my entire favorites playlist at home. Or at least Base Ball Bear's Band B ni Tsuite. Or bloodthirsty butchers' Guitarist wo Korosanai de. And yeah, the pillows' Runners High.
