I'm doing some research for my A level coursework i'd be glad if you could help me out. I'm focusing on the genre of music /// and relate my genre to artists like Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, The Specials, Madness, The Aquabats Sublime,No Doubt, [spunge], Streetlight Manifesto and Rancid
The moodboard i have made is meant to represent the general "retro" feel i want to convey in my magazine.

Does it reflect the genre well?
Does this appeal to you? Why?
Would you read this magazine?
What would you want it to include?
What do you think about the fonts? (which sort of fonts do you like to see in magazines?)
Do you like magazines to be more visual than informative? (more art/images than actual text/information)

Thanks for your help!

Does it reflect the genre well? Yeah, I suggest more black and white check! Cant have enough check! lol Does this appeal to you? Yeah being a Punk, Ska, Reggae fan though to be honest I very rarely buy magizines unless Iam taveling. Would you read this magazine? Sure if it helped premote unsigned bands aswell as all the big names. Its nice to find out about new bands which is one of the reasons I joined this site and since found loads more Ska bands that interest me. What would you want it to include? A little info on the history of Ska, plus abit more of old school british Ska like Bad Manners, The Beat and The Selecter! :) What do you think about the fonts? What fonts?... I see fonts on a few of the pics in the mood board but no overal font like a title ect... Do you like magazines to be more visual than informative? Good photographs of bands live and in studio coupled with decent not too lengthy articles and interviews is always good. A few suggestions: [1] If you can find a copie of Horace Panter's Ska'ed for Life, its his personal account of being part of The Specials who in my oppinion are the best Ska band ever! [2] Aswell as looking into older Ska bands how about you research the creation of Ska in 1950 Jamaica?... Maybe add a lil bit about Skinhead and Mods and the early 60's Ska style. [3] if youve not seen it watch This is England its a good look at Skinheads and Ska! Hope all thats of some help to you. Also sorry if ive rabbited on abit.

I really have to second everything said above by Joe Soap. he is a true punk/ska/reggae fan indeed. most of the things i wanted to suggest are already there. pleas notice that in your mag you might want to add more 'old' first wave skabands. I mean, I love my RBF and Madness, but allso the more reggae oriented ska like the Specials of Skatalites.. regarding to your personal questions: Does it reflect the genre well? as said above: please include some more first wave ska and maybe the two tone man! Does this appeal to you? Why? yeah it does. I'm mainly in to punk, ska and reggae (as well as many other genres, but that is another story) Would you read this magazine? I guess.. if I could get it where I live(holland) What would you want it to include? interviews, maybe some tourdates from the bands that are touring now, live pics... that sort of thing. Check out 'Live XS'; its a dutch mag that concentrats on live music in the netherlands What do you think about the fonts? (which sort of fonts do you like to see in magazines?) I dont really care, as long as it isnt 'comic sans' Do you like magazines to be more visual than informative? (more art/images than actual text/information) a bit of both. nice pics with a good story is always a plus. hope that helped.
