actually i bet if you look at Gay Kiss' past shows on fb you can find some good local shit tho it'll probably be all hardcore bands

eyyyyyyy! there's destruction unit but i'm personally not that into them. they're like a really loud noisy "jam-rock" (ie they tend to get friends to play with them so there's like 3 drummers and 5 guitars or whatever) band but besides that i couldn't really tell ya. u livin' in phoenix or smthg?

Yeah it's too bad both shows are the same night. I'll be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of a lot of modern tech death, but I can jam some Aborted and I'm looking forward to the show. So you're saying the Abiotic show was no good? I really enjoyed seeing Today is the Day, considering I'm not too familiar with their work, they sounded excellent. It was a really small crowd too, I was pretty much the only person under 21 that night.

I highly recommend this band called Lazer/Wulf. I saw them play the other night and they killed it. They really deserve the support.

Just listening to the new VoM album, what do you think?

    letzten Monat
  • introvertical

Yeah I love how LB's bassist sounds like he's playing guitar and bass simultaneously. I've heard that European crowds are generally all around better, different customs I guess. I think it should always be about everyone having a good time, never understood guys who just want to fuck people up. As far as those upcoming shows go I was originally going to check out the Atlas Moth, but now I might go to that Fit For an Autopsy/Aborted show instead since there the same night.

Yeah I was one person away from being in front of the railing during Melt Banana and Lightning Bolt. I must have been near you because I was right in front of Brian Gibson (LB's bassist). I didn't go into the center of the pit (except for Gay Kiss because it was small), but I still moshed and got sucked into it at times. I'm not the strongest dude so I can't really mosh as much as I'd like to.

    Also check this shit out.

Only thing that sucks is I lost my glasses during Melt Banana. I think I might switch to contacts so I don't have to worry about that while moshing and what not.

  • introvertical

YES! By far the best show I've been to yet. I saw Gay Kiss and they were good, sounded tight and had great stage presence. Melt Banana was absolute insanity, they sounded just as good as their recordings (partly due to the drum machine I guess), even though I'm not super familiar with their material, I'm definitely going to check all of it out now. Everyone went apeshit for Lightning Bolt, and I loved their new stuff. I was super lucky that night because the girls working the entrance accidentally gave me the 21+ band, so I was able to snag some stuff from the merch table and put it in my car before the show.

Huh, I always thought you were older from your RYM. I feel your pain--The Body played this beautiful little outdoor venue for $5 on a Saturday night a few months ago and that shit was 21+. Sucks because when I saw them with Neurosis I didn't "get" them and wrote them off as shit before I got super into them. By the way, check FOH's FB for a new song by The Body with the FOH bassist, it rips

You're going to The Body/Full of Hell? Lucky man.

Yeah I'm not too sure about Gorguts playing SS but last year Morbid Angel headlined the festival, and they're another super influential death metal band that has been around forever, so I don't think its too much of a stretch. Also the official SS page hinted that some of the bands on the Heavy Montreal fest would be playing SS, and Gorguts was one of them, so its a possibility. What bands would you want to see on the bill? I'm assuming you've been before, how was it?

    April 2015
  • SlaveOfN1l

I have little hope that it's coming out anytime soon haha, although they've already played a new song at some festivals. Sounds like a return to the thrashier sound of Cold Steel. Also, you might want to check out that new Akhlys. It's stream in full on Debamur Morti's bandcamp

    April 2015
  • introvertical

Also what do you think of the Summer Slaughter tour? I've been waiting for them to announce the lineup. I'm really hoping we get Gorguts and Cattle Decap on the bill, but I'm how much of a possibility that is

    April 2015
  • introvertical

Yeah it was a restaurant/bar, apparently their food is really good but I didn't eat, next time maybe. Definitely a smaller venue, but that's nice because you can get super close to the stage. Honestly I don't think you would have been too out of your element, there were a lot of metal/hardcore fans at the show. This was my first gig alone and I enjoyed it a lot. And if you ever want to meet up or something, I'm pretty much down for anything

    April 2015
  • introvertical

I went last night and had a blast, but I haven't been to very many shows so I my expectations might be lower than your's. My only gripe was that I couldn't really hear the guitars and other details very well, it was mostly bass and noise. With that being sad, Swans were still quite the experience. They played some new stuff I think, only songs I could recognize were A Little God in My Hands and Just a Little Boy, but even those songs sounded vastly different from their recordings, which is fine.

    April 2015
  • SlaveOfN1l

Hey! Not bad, how about you? I've been kind of slow in discovering new music this year, haha, but the new Acherontas is probably my AOTY thus far

Excited for Swans tomorrow? I've heard they usually play for 2+ hours and the majority of it is new, unreleased material.

My favourite will always be their debut since I have a strong nostalgic relationship attached to it, but it doesn't do anything that hasn't been already done by bands like Darkthrone, so it might possibly bore you... Then I also like the industrial/trippy 666 album. Monumental Possession is boring black/thrash and Supervillain sounds like really bad kind of "modern metal" to me.

    April 2015
  • ToadstoolMoon

Thank you for the recommendation, this Desolate Shrine stuff unfortunately doesn't work for me though, since I'm not a big fan of Immolation either, I just listen to their debut album... Yeah, the new DHG is different than all of their albums (like always, actually), it has more of a psychedelic VBE-ish vibe and sometimes even reminds me of some of the more far-out 70s prog/fusion bands.

    April 2015
  • ToadstoolMoon

BTW, totally off-topic: a guy from this band just wrote some positive comments about my band on NWN and I checked their music out - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDDj8M_NEk0 I think you might dig them like I do, since they are doing something creative with old school metal influences and they are also very proficient musicians.

When I look at my library, I have only 13 Windir plays, haha. It's probably because I overplayed that stuff in the early 2000s when I discovered them.

    April 2015
  • ToadstoolMoon

I like the second Windir album a lot, especially the song Svartesmeden og lundamyrstrollet which has that insanely beautiful lead guitar theme. As far as 2015 BM releases go, I think the new Dodheimsgard is a great return to form (didn't like the previous album at all), I am also very excited about the upcoming Lugubrum album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WNps6y7wV8

    April 2015
  • ToadstoolMoon

I've just checked it out for the 1st time but it sounds very good just as I expected. A bit more laid back and less imaginative/evocative than NP but still better than most of contemporary black metal in my opinion...

Actually this is his band: https://disperseofficial.bandcamp.com/album/journey-through-the-hidden-gardens They have a newer album called "Living Mirrors", which is my favorite.

You have a lot of "Djent" bands in your library. I think you might appreciate this: https://jakubzytecki.bandcamp.com/album/wishful-lotus-proof This guy's guitar playing is out of this world! (IMO)

As far as stuff that's already out, there's been a lot of non-metal stuff I've been digging. New Death Grips, Liturgy, Lightning Bolt, still gotta check out the new Godspeed. I also need to revisit Leviathan - Scar Sighted. I enjoyed it but it was a really dense album that's going to require quite a few listens for me. Oh yeah new Enslaved and A Forest of Stars albums, but I haven't listened to them yet

    April 2015
  • introvertical

Right now I'm anticipating the new Deafheaven, and BTBAM as well. I thought Memory Palace was a fresh new style for the band, their last album was incredible but I felt like they might get stuck in a rut doing the same sound, but it sounds like they're switching it up a bit. I was really excited for the new Meshuggah album, but I read an article with Thomas Haake saying that it won't be out until 2016. Also anticipating the new Deftones record, they're one of my all time favorites. Those are pretty much all of the major ones, I'm sure there are lot of others.

Nice! Actually I'm moving to Anthem but I'm staying near Phoenix right now. I'll have to check out those venues online to see what's coming up. So are their any albums you're anticipating this year? There's a ton for me, but I just read in Decibel mag about the new Cattle Decapitation, so I'm hyped for that. Really need to familiarize myself with the rest of their back catalog.

    April 2015
  • ToadstoolMoon

Well, since you have a good ear for music, I guess you also have a talent for these audio-whatever jobs. I can imagine you as a studio engineer or producer in the future :D Yeah, the situation in Slovakia is kind of complicated - most of people have a pro-Russian mentality, but we have a lot of influential figures here that work secretly or openly with the West. We are a small nation so with an exception of stuff like this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Moravia we were usually a part of greater, multinational empires. But I feel like Russia is going to have a much bigger influence in the future because some formerly pro-NATO figures in my country are suddenly pro-Russian oriented, like if they felt a wind of change coming soon...

    April 2015
  • ToadstoolMoon

I actually support leftists as well, as long as they are against the idea of a one world government/ideology. For example a lot of people in Central & South America are leftist, but in a natural way that makes sense within their social situation and geopolitical context... Yeah, I think the possibility to work in that field is awesome! Definitely not something you could do easily in here. And since you have a natural passion for music, I think you would be a great candidate for that, haha.

    April 2015
  • ToadstoolMoon

Yeah and most of the political/social "elites" in my country are just mindless slaves of the US politics (which most of American people actually disagree with)... It's funny 'cause each time I talk about this with common Americans, they always have views similar to mine. You guys should overthrow your horrible government. ...oh, I think you should totally go on with this sort of career if you can! Work and passion in one. If I ever get rich for some weird reason, I'll book a flight and record something with you, haha!

    April 2015
  • ToadstoolMoon

Definitely, I think that the western idea of a unipolar world where each and every culture succumbs to the same model of liberal democracy, human rights ideology & egalitarianism is the most racist thing ever, because it shows huge disrespect towards the differences of other nations, races & cultures. For example, I don't agree with the Islamic views of women, but still, it's their own culture and if it works for them in their countries - why should I tell them how to think. ...As for the rest, I'm doing fine more or less, the only problem is still not getting a job even if I try... And how about you?

    April 2015
  • ToadstoolMoon

But yeah, I know Phurpa, they even had a gig here in Bratislava, I wasn't there though, can't remember the reason (probably money :D)
