That's cool man, I was just curious. Some of the older, pioneering artists (especially centering around the Wu Tang Clan) had excellent use of sampling, sinister production and piano looping from what I remember. Some of them were obviously very intelligent in the use of language, and how they could make it flow together seemlessly. I could never get into it in a major fashion though; it's from a different cultural perspective and one that I do not think I'd ever understand from this distance.

have you guys listened to Eldrig's solo project (the composer of the band Fanisk)? Seems to have amazing potential after listening to the sophomore album three times. Think of a guitar-driven take on Fanisk's composition style.

It's really melodic, tight structures that have some good use of sequenced development and subtle variations. Some parts sound a bit cheesy, however. I only listened to three songs a few times, hard to know if it is worth pursuing further. The main part that had me interested was their pagan presentation (and lyrical themes). There are some songs on youtube if you are ever bored enough to have a listen.

Thanks - might save me the trouble. Do you still rate any of their back catalogue highly? I have been enjoying MOC and aEDoD lately. MOC is fairly hard to digest, but I haven't listened to it more than 4-5 times so far. However the melodic interplay, over far-reaching structures, with patient development is impressive. Their search for transcendence and meaning in the cosmos, rather than the ideological bent of many modern metal bands is inspiring so far.

DJ Culture was pretty interesting listen, bit cheesy at times though. Never thought I would be liking a trance record lol.

I was not blown away by the new Immolation. In fact, I thought it was kind of oversimplified and one-dimensional. But I remain an Immolation fan, so am hoping it will grow on me, even if I have had no urges to hear it again.

Hi. I was actually pleasantly surprised by it, simply because I felt it had more emotional strength behind it than their recent outputs. It is true that their focus has shifted from intricate riff constructions to a more straight-forwrd approach, in the vein of more popular, "brutal" bands, but honestly, this is the first time in a while that I got the impression that they achieved exactly what they aimed for, for good or ill. (I think this straight-forward approach is, in part, a development of themes started in "Close To A World Below", which is my favourite Immolation album, so that also influenced my judgement.). I hope that makes sense.
