That explains a lot. If he were any good then a bigger club would've already picked him up.

Yeah, I had never heard of him before... I believe he's an MLS player? Anyway, I watched the game on a Belgian television channel and the commentary was phenomenal. "Courtois has got two balls now and he doesn't mind" had me burst out laughing.

Well according to the people in this country, 'we' have already won the tournament - so I'll just take their word for it. I felt the match against Belgium was thorougly entertaining, although I do wonder who that god awful striker of yours was... should've hit the back of the net.

Yeah, the Cigarette Smoking Man has often been described as some sort of devil, but he wasn't *all* bad I believe. The aliens just put him in a difficult position. What I like about Krycek is the fact that you could never really tell where he stood. Funnily enough that is also the case with him on Google, because I found some very alarming pictures with it. Click at your own risk!

Hm... I thought John Doggett was 'the man', but you're entitled to your opinion of course. He had great chemistry with Annabeth as well. Also, am I wrong for loving the Krycek character?

It's my favourite show, actually. I've got the entire series on DVD (boxset) and I have the PC-game from 1998 as well. Also, speaking of Annabeth (who does indeed look fantastic with that hairdo): I think the last two seasons, with her and Robert Patrick, were treated pretty unfairly. Their characters kept the show from becoming a bit stale if you ask me by adding a whole new dynamic, with Scully turning into a bit of a Mulder and whatnot. I guess I'm in the minority though... oh, and you should really hang this poster in your office instead!

She was smokin' hot on the X-Files, a textbook example of a beautiful woman really. I don't care too much for our national team myself, but yeah, they're all convinced again that 'we' are going to win the World Cup (which would actually be the first time in history). We'll see!

Haha trust me, I know. Hope you were already sitting in front of the screen when Dempsey (Clint, not Patrick) made that goal against Ghana? And I've yet to watch the flick, but that probably won't take long anymore since my gal Annabeth Gish is in it.

If you haven't noticed, my tumblr is much more active lately than it used to be, so I'm hoping that burst of activity may lead to something that isn't reblogging pictures of record players, cats, beer, and whatever else. It's good people bug you about updates. I guess they like what they are reading. I still get an e-mail when AoV gets a new follower, every so often. I feel like I haven't really been listening to as much newer/unknown/unheard (at least to me) stuff as I had been in the past, much less the type of stuff that may fit the AoV mold, whatever I seem to think that is. Though when I fired up a tumblr account in 2010, I had always had plans to make it a content-based blog, possibly about music and whatever else. I never was really sure what the content would be, though. And also, it seems like the used record bins around here haven't been as plentiful as they were. What the hell?

I'm putting this track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGBs7FV4zm8 by another local OK soul act on my next 8 tracks mix. I found a vinyl rip of it on the record store computer when I covered a shift about a week ago, and I remember them finding this record some time last year. It's actually not bad! There's a book, which I believe is called "Enjoy the Experience" which came out on Record Store Day that covers some interesting private press/vanity records out there. That stuff does intrigue me, actually. Usually the case is, these records seem to have really awesome song and the rest is just okay, or are covers of somewhat well known songs. Good to see someone writing on AoV again. I always mean to write about something, but I never think of it. Whatever happened to Get Bent? I went thru cleaning out Tumblr accounts I hadn't seen much activity from for a while and they were one of them.

There's also a really weird story somewhere on the internet about the Jr. and the Soulettes album, so you may see that too. It's all really bizarre.

I'm not sure what happened, but I was pretty sure I left you a message on here this morning. I agree about how the MBV albums sound like a color. White for the first one, red for the 2nd, and blue for the 3rd. That fits. I always try to get anything on Daptone, or anything I don't already own. I feel, record for record, that label has a good track record. I like everything they put out. Have you heard some of the lesser known ones, like the Bob & Gene record (recorded in the 60s, I think?) or The Mighty Imperials (which is basically a soul band with kids in it)? I also like the Budos Band albums too. I've kind of been on a kick looking for old local stuff. Friends of mine came across some old Oklahoma soul album that's supposed to be good. They did a rip of it, which I have but I think they may be eBaying the record. I always kind of like to know what music came out of my state. A weird one from OK is "Jr. and the Soulettes", look it up some time.

That new Charles Bradley record is good, and actually so is the first one. I'd recommend it at least. I forgot, I was going to buy the Honey Ltd. "Complete LHI Years" collection available on Light in the Attic. Ordered one when I covered a shift Saturday. Some guy who also came in the store asking about the Loveless albums we had for sale beat me to it. By the way, Loveless is in print again, as a Bootleg (the Plain one is basically a boot) and this one sounds better than that Plain one (which fetches some $$ on eBay... hmm). Re: Oh Sees, I can never complain when a band puts out something frequently. Like, it's weird to think Elvis Costello put out a record almost every year , and the Doors, Beatles all put out an album a year if not two in a year. It's unfortunate when some band I really like takes 5 years to release another album, or longer. The Oh Sees have put out 3 releases since this time last year? All decent, but of their most recent ones, Carrion Crawler is the best.

The Torres record is pretty good. A good mix of Cat Power, Sharon van Etten, and a little PJ Harvey. I actually saw Sharon van Etten open for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds a few months ago. Amazing performances by both of them, actually. Re: Torres, I bought the vinyl about a week ago, and it's been on my turntable and iPod quite a bit. I also got the record by Jessica Pratt, which I kind of like too, but not as much as the Torres one. I think this newest Oh Sees is better than the last one, but a friend of mine said he's kind of over them? I hardly think that way, and I figure they probably have a few more good albums in them. Did you ever listen to that Warm Soda album Castleface put out? It's worth checking out, a good description of their sound is "lo-fi early Strokes". Any luck in the Seattle Record stores? Did you check out Singles Going Steady yet?

Oh yeah, I finally found a vinyl copy of the 2nd Only Ones LP for super cheap. I have all of them on CD with the bonus tracks. I've been on a few trips lately. I went to NY and NJ for a wedding. I found Love's "Out Here" LP and Syd Barret's "Opel" LP at Princeton Record Exchange. I've also been revisiting a lot of the PJ Harvey stuff. Surprisingly, I haven't heard much of the Wedding Present's stuff. Maybe one of their more well known records? I've been trying to hunt down the Young Marble Giants record, but I've not found it. Only one by a band that came afterwards, called The Weekend. I'm not finding a lot of new stuff I like, so I'm trying to find old stuff that I haven't given a try yet. I dunno, I feel like I've hit a bit of a wall.

Yeah, I hear you, I've been looking for stuff I haven't heard of that'll make my day. I've been listening to a whole bunch of those Cleaners from Venus albums, and the Savages album. A lot of soul music (Bill Withers comes to mind, as does Percy Sledge, Al Green, Shuggie Otis). Right now I'm listening to Jakob Olausson... something I found in the box of promos when I still worked at the record store, and that Paul Cary album, I've been listening to that some too. I kind of wrote off Black Angels when they put out that single for Record Store Day. I actually kind of liked Phosphene Dream, but agreed, their first albums are their best. Any good record finds? I found what looked to be a beat up "A Love Supreme" for $4. The sleeve is beat, but the record sounds pretty good.

Your Rate Your Music page is much more fun when you review records. I agree, that new Black Angels album doesn't exactly do it for me. Right? By the way, what's up?
