you know those dolls that, when they lie on their backs on, say, the floor of your bedroom, their eyes are closed and round and quiet and peaceful? but when you pick them up to admire their beauty, their eyes open and you almost throw them down out of, maybe shock first, but then surprise that they were something different than you expected, and maybe you wanted them to stay all quiet and basically only pretty at first, though now that you've seen something else in them, you want them in a stronger way, in the way that makes you wan to put them in a pillowcase and carry them around with you everywhere, their eyelids opening like automatic doors on their sides, as they slide back slowly to show their round, round, round eyeballs?
