I asked for help on SomethingAwful for music:

Can anyone recommend me any rocky sort of music that is in between R.E.M's Up and Radiohead's Kid A? I mean the sort where you have the usual structure of rock music - drums, guitars etc. - but with synths as the main part.
I can't really think of any bands like that, but you might like Deadsy, The Anix (Maybe too poppy for what you're looking for), The Faint, and you also might want to look into synthpop. There's a synthpop thread active in NMD now.

Deadsy was a bit heavy but the rest I like, including synthpop stuff. If you happen to be reading for any weird reason, thanks :)
I especially liked The Anix. They're a synth-rock band that are indie and not paticularly well known. Which is a shame because they're very good. I've got two of their albums and like them both. If you're interested in them, I'd look at
Illusion - probably my favourite.
