i did pre-order it, and have been listening to the stream online.. it took me by surprise at first and i didn't know what to think of it but it's grown on me very quickly.

i found an mp3 of race is on again- it's got a beautiful country-tinged guitar track and georgia and ira do the loveliest vocal harmony you can imagine. reminds me very much of the byrds. my fav so far among the 3 or 4 i've heard but like the other not-so-official releases it ends abruptly. let me know if you wanna hear it.

yeah.. the only ones, big star, flaming groovies, feelies, barbara manning, the clean, half japanese, holy modal rounders- it's amazing how much good music i've discovered through ylt because they've covered them or because of some other connections.

One of my favorite concerts was Yo La Tengo at the old Knitting Factory in NY. It was packed and they played Five Cornered Drone - I can't really describe it, but it was transporting.

Wilco to me is kind of the same thing Yo La Tengo was to you 3 years ago - I always knew they were out there, but I dismissed them as Americana. I am going backward through their albums - A Ghost is Born last year, then I Am Trying to Break Your Heart. That's about where I am right now - I just love the noise and randomness of it all coupled with pop hooks. Kind of sums up Yo La Tengo, too...

And about YLT- hasn't been long- a little over 3yrs now. My intro to YLT were a couple of tracks from Electr-O-Pura & I really liked them. Shortly after, I discovered Deeper Into Movies from I Can Hear... It captured my sensibilities so well at that point in time- I was completely consumed by it for days on end. So tell me about Wilco. I don't think I've listened to any of their stuff.

Andy is a truly mesmerizing character. Behind his blanket of meanness I sense a very insecure manchild going to every imaginable extreme to garner attention of Ken and the listeners. I can never tell if that's how he is in real life or if he's just acting. I'm a big fan of his.

Oh - my favorite SSD show was the one where Andy baited a kid into yelling, You suck into the phone and then the kid got in trouble. The funny thing is that Andy seems totally lost at FMU - the whole 'hippie music' thing. For some reason, it works. How long have you been a Yo La Tengo fan?

i've been listening to SSD more or less regularly for the last couple years. i hear that the show's best days are over.. but i think they're still hilarious.

Ah - I used to absolutely obsess over SSD. I haven't listened to it in a long time. Is it still around? Andy has to be the bitterest person on earth...I think I stopped listening around his divorce. I liked Irene Trudell's show - psych/60's/folk, but definitely enjoyable. The world show on Sundays is good too.
