Über mich

Led by the evocative voice of Amélie Laflamme, the music of Montreal-based The Blue Seeds resides somewhere between atmospheric-rock and alternative-folk.
The band’s main focus is on writing and arranging songs in a way that time wouldn’t know how to make obsolete. In doing so, with its debut album, The Blue Seeds has also succeeded in creating its own unique soundscape that is as mysterious as a David Lynch movie and as refined as Wim Wenders’ pictures. A must listen album for all Neko Case and Portishead’s aficionados.

A promising vision at work…

- Bernard Perusse, The Gazette
I like the sultry vocals slightly tainted with sadness. And I like even more the post-modern western panoramic soundscape.

- Sylvain Cormier, Fréquence libre (Radio-Canada)

Formed in 2004, by songwriter and guitarist François Dufault, The Blue Seeds is now comprised of a mix of 6 up-and-coming and well established musicians: Amélie Laflamme (vocals, piano, melodica), Marc Chartrain (drums), Martin Farmer (bass), Roger Miron (guitar) and Eric Rathé (keys).

Released in Canada on March 4th of 2008, and now available in the US via iTunes and cdbaby, The Blue Seeds’ debut album was recorded in Montreal at Masterkut Studio (Patrick Watson, Lhasa De Sela) and in Faenza (Italy) with the collaboration of Dustin O’Halloran (Marie-Antoinette’s soundtrack, Sofia Coppola) from Los Angeles’ The Devics. Recorded with an “indie” sensibility, the 11 songs on the record reveal rich arrangements that include a wide variety of instruments ranging from electric guitars to analog keyboards, mellotron and vibraphone. The result is an album that is unique and original. Cinematic and very evocative, each song leads the listeners into a reverie as if they were part of a fictional road movie.

In 2008, the band performed at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Festival de Musique Émergente en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Popkomm in Berlin, and also offered a private performance for M for Montreal’s international delegates. The Blue Seeds has also set foot for the first time in France in the spring of 2009 for a few concerts : Printemps de Bourges and L’international (Paris) where its debut album has been released on April 27th.
A previously unreleased track, « Where Did You Go », recorded in Berlin at Andere Baustelle Studio, and a remix for « Lost and Delirious » done by Kid Loco, has also been released in the spring of 2009 on vinyl and mp3.

On stage, the band delivers an outstanding performance, pushing the songs to their fullest while leading the audience into a daydream and sometimes stunning people by the energy and dynamic displayed by the musicians.
