THIS IS JUST SOME RANDOM THOUGHTS OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD.
Confusion hangover/overdose. From the totally blindingly brand-spankingly bleach-whitened-ly sparklingly nu last.fm.
Because new is always the best. Apparantly.
Day 1
I was shocked when I returned to good old last.fm last month.. imagine my surprise (I'm sure many people know that feeling) when I saw, in front of eyes, something that looked vaguely like a Myspace/Facebook offspring (if they ever had an offspring). What happened? Did Chuck Norris land here and took over/hacked? Why was everything so out of place... and so blindingly white? I could almost feel the blood dripping from my eyes as I stared.
Gosh, my eyes must have aged 5 years (now 10 and counting) in the minutes that followed I spent trying to navigate around the blinding brightness.
At last, I came upon the answer to my question.
REVAMP
What the...
And what followed was a myriad of very mixed (mostly negative) emotions and failed attempts at navigation. Suddenly, last.fm felt so alien to me.
What is this flash player thing?
Where the heck did the shoutbox go?
Noooooo... gimme my neighbours back! *Waaaa*
What happened to...
Gaaa, it's loading so slowly... *Zzzzzz*
And where was Paint it Black?
Lovely ads, even though they don't seem to be smarted than they were before.
I felt disappointed. And annoyed. Because, let's be honest, the new layout is catastrophic.
The old last.fm was definitely NOT in my list of websites-needing-redesign. Why, it was pretty much close to perfection. Why couldn't IT have been worked on instead? What is so wrong about it?
Oh wait. The ads.
Sure, it felt like a whole new minty breath was blown into last.fm, but it had this... disconnected feeling about it. Stuff is scattered everywhere, the old dashboard was more informative, it suddenly became a chore to find even some of the familiar features because, apparantly, they all disappeared (at least for me) either amongst all the whiteness or into oblivion of nothingness.
It was a pain to search out journals linked to some artists and groups. They were suddenly not so easy to find anymore. Buried within rabbles, concealed from prying eyes. And as for journals linked to artists.. they disappeared.
O Last.fm, what have becomest of thou?
Oi, can you hear me?
Hey, do you care?
Guess not.

Day 2
I think I need a tourist guide to get around this place now...
---
Day 3
Give me a break. I'm not going back on.
Infact, I QUIT!
You heard it!
---
Day 4
(Too addicted to quit...)
---
Day.. I-don't-know
Finally! The prayers have been answered! Paint It Black is back!
*Waa*
Hmm.. it doesn't look less bright with this..
How depressing.
They should rename it Paint It Emo.
---
Still trying to get used to this new last.fm, but frankly, it really quite confusing. Although I do like some of the new features they have inplemented, like choosing your own charts and seeing them update instantly, (not mentioning the brilliant idea of adding a shoutbox to tags - the emo tag is now officially a battlefield) I really miss the way last.fm used to look.. No more neighbours on the profile page, no more artist's tag cloud (now just one puny line of texts), no more country and places charts, no more tag chart, no rest for sore eyes after staring at all that whiteness... and with only two columns, it's really cluttered.
The artists deletion function is pretty nice, but I wish they had a search option too! It's annoying going through all the artists. AND IT TAKES AGES......
Another annoying thing is some of the simpler tasks now requires multiple clicks to complete.
Moving the shoutbox to the middle column is quite annoying, having to scroll down all the time and leaves the right column kind of empty (unless you have an extraordinarily cluttered profile page, which most people don't have)
This color scheme is really getting on my nerves...... I was just looking around the PureVolume.com forums and noted that the colors are so similar to last.fm's (What the heck, even the forum layout is similiar! Especially when images are turned off).. @_@ What now, MyLastVolumeBook.fm? *sigh* Only time will tell.
I do hope the staffs makes changes in the right direction (and I definitely don't want to see those facebookish apps on here, that would ruin the simplicity of what last.fm stands for - music), because there's so much potential in last.fm's features that are let down by the layout. More improvements are needed on this new design before it can rival the old design, because right now... I'm getting a headache navigation the site.
I like the old last.fm for being what it is, and NOT as a Facebook look-alike, or a clone of anything else.
