  • Ed Kowalczyk - Groningen, 2010 Sep. 5

    7. Sep. 2010, 21:02

Sun 5 Sep – Ed Kowalczyk - "Alive" Tour

I can't remember the right order, but these are the songs Ed performed in Groningen:

Hit songs of Live (in order of release):
    The Beauty of Gray
    Selling the Drama
    I Alone
    Lightning Crashes
    All Over You
    The Dolphin's Cry
    They Stood Up for Love
    Overcome
    Heaven

Songs from 'Alive' (in track order):
    Drive
    The Great Beyond
    Grace
    Stand
    Drink (Everlasting Love)
    Zion
    Just in Time
    Rome
    Soul Whispers
    Fire on the Mountain

Which means Ed did all songs (except one) from his solo album, "Alive". Ed's performance of Live's 9/11-song "Overcome" was a huge surprise (since he doesn't seem to include it a lot lately), but well.. 9/11 was less than one week away, so I pretty much guess that's the reason why he performed it.

Highlights for me definitely were the tandem "All Over You"/"Selling the Drama" (the 4th and 5th song of the setlist), "The Great Beyond", "Overcome" (it's still really intense) and one of the reprise-songs, the beautiful track "Grace".
  • Paolo Nutini, Wed 26 May at De Oosterpoort, Groningen

    28. Mai. 2010, 21:16

Wed 26 May – Paolo Nutini

Short review of Paolo Nutini at De Oosterpoort (Groningen, the Netherlands).

Awesome concert, this was the first time I saw Paolo live. He did 10 (out of 12) songs from his new album, "Sunny Side Up" - which was great! Still, one of the highlights of the evening for me was "These Streets", the title song of his debut album with the same name - it felt really sincere in a setlist with songs full of energy. Other highlights included the singles "Candy" and "Coming Up Easy", and the song "Funky Cigarette". I was kinda sad that he didn't do "Rewind" (my favourite Paolo-song) or "Million Faces", but really.. even that couldn't ruin my great evening.

About Paolo.. He might not be the best performer in terms of moves, but he really doesn't need it at all. His great voice, the feelings, emotions and energy he puts into his songs definitely make up for that and every music fan should at least once attend one of his concerts. Believe me, you won't be disappointed.

    Finally, the setlist:
    10/10
    Alloway Grove
    High Hopes
    Loving You
    Growing Up Beside You
    Candy
    Chamber Music
    These Streets
    Worried Man
    Funky Cigarette
    Coming Up Easy
    Pencil Full of Lead
    Sleepwalking
    New Shoes
    No Other Way
    Jenny Don’t Be Hasty

    Reprise:
    Tricks of the Trade
    Time to Pretend
    Last Request
  • Alicia Keys in concert, 8 May '10 (Gelredome, Arnhem)

    9. Mai. 2010, 16:00

Sat 8 May – Alicia Keys

Well, what can I say? This concert was absolutely amazing from beginning to end. And it (surprisingly) sounded really well, in contrary to some other concert I saw in the Gelredome before - so kudos to the technicians for that. My favourite song of the evening was Pray for Forgiveness, which sounded really intense and sincere with Alicia playing on the piano. She continued on piano with two other great songs, "Diary" and "Like You'll Never See Me Again". And obviously the last part of the concert really was a blast, with 6 of her hits in a row (see the setlist below). Simply stunnishing.

Other highlights for me were "Another Way to Die" (I don't really like the single, but somehow it kinda catched me out of nowhere), "Go Ahead" (the guitar solo was simply great), "Wait Til You See My Smile" (we couldn't get it out of her heads after the concert) and the beautiful new song "Un-thinkable (I'm Ready)". Alicia most of the time (or all the time?) only sang the first verse, chorus and then skipped to the bridge, but that actually was a good thing (so she could put more songs in the setlist).

Great setlist, really balanced. Songs from all her albums, all of her recent hits were included and she played a lot The Element of Freedom-songs. I also really liked the balance between ballads and up-tempo songs.

    Setlist:
    "Caged Bird"
    "Love Is Blind"
    "You Don't Know My Name"
    "Fallin'"
    "Another Way to Die"
    "Karma"
    "Like the Sea"
    "I Need You"
    "Pray for Forgiveness"
    "Diary"
"Like You'll Never See Me Again"
"Wait Til You See My Smile"
    "Go Ahead"
"Put It in a Love Song"
    "Un-thinkable (I'm Ready)"
"Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart"
    "Superwoman"
    "If I Ain't Got You"
    "Doesn't Mean Anything"
    "No One"
"Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down" (Reprise)
  • Joss Stone - 9 Mar '10 @ De Oosterpoort, Groningen

    10. Mär. 2010, 0:16

Tue 9 Mar – Joss Stone, Jenny Lane

    Setlist
    The Chokin' Kind
    Free Me
Tell Me What We're Gonna Do Now
Put Your Hands on Me/Baby Baby Baby
    Could Have Been You
Don't Cha Wanna Ride/Bad Habit/You Got the Love
    Less Is More
    Music
Be On My Mind ("Come Rest Your Head")
Fell in Love With a Boy
    Parallel Lines
    Tell Me 'Bout It
    Big Ol' Game (reprise)

Unfortunately she didn't do "Spoiled", "Super Duper Love" or "You Had Me" in Groningen, but she was still amazing! Highlights for me were definitely "Less Is More" and "Tell Me What We're Gonna Do Now". I think she sounds incredible live and she had some nice interaction with the audience (there was some funny bear-action where all kinds of stuffed bears where thrown at the stage) and gave a great performance.
