Hello there, sorry that I do not know you, but please tell me that you are attending the Festival de Musique Actuelle!! If I could, I would in a heartbeat. I emailed them and asked for a media list pass and though they offered me a reduced-price ticket, I just couldn't afford it.

Thanks Stuart, will definitely check your recommendations out. Haven't listened to Friedman in a long time. Glad you like Amina Aloui - I first heard her on Jon Balke's Siwan which also features Jon Hassell, highly recommended. I see Juliana Barwick shares producer and string quartet with Sigur Ros so that'll be interesting.

Hello Stuart, lovely to hear from you. Hm, I'll try to help, but please excuse me if you already know these. Here's a few artists I've played a lot recently: Disfarmer, Bill Frisell: I find immensely moving, even more so when looking at Disfarmer's amazing portraits (best version: The Vintage Prints) Flying Lotus, When The Quiet Comes: hip hop meets Alice Coltrane, sort of. Mogwai, Les Revenants: slow-mo, elegiac guitar soundtrack. British Sea Power, Machineries of Joy: lovely, concise English art rock. Sigur Rós, Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust: by far my most played music for the last 12 months is by this Icelandic group. Amina Aloui, Arco Iris: delightful Moroccan singer of Al Andalus music. Pantha Du Prince & The Bell Laboratory, Elements of Light: beautiful techno using real bells. Holden, The Inheritors: imagine the makers of Stone Henge playing electronica about high speed trains (!) What would you recommend from your listening?

You can download those three tracks as mp3s for free from the site I believe. Quite by chance I came across this early duet album with Vernon Reid today: http://musichertz.blogspot.com/2012/04/bill-frisell-vernon-reid-smash.html. It's out of print and I'd never heard of it before. If you're interested in Frisell's earlier more experimental work, it's well worth a listen.

Hello Stuart, I see you've played Frisell's All We Are Saying which I couldn't get into. I wondered whether you'd heard his short solo session of Beatles interpretations which I found tremendously moving: http://www.npr.org/event/music/146156479/bill-frisell-tiny-desk-concert. I'd love it if he did a whole album like that!

Hey, Stuart--you're most welcome. I find myself thinking that Choral might be one of those albums that you give to someone who thinks s/he'd hate ambient; it's gorgeous.

Thanks very much for Herr Paape recommendation - great running music. After an extended period of listening to ECM, I'm now listening to increasing amounts of dubstep and classical.

Hm, tempted to seek out the Jurgen Paape, am on the lookout for more good running music (UKG/2562/El-B is newly hitting the spot for me). What do you think of the Moritz Von Oswald? I've struggled to click with it.

No worries. I've been really busy this summer and haven't had much time to keep up all things music. I hope all is well. I saw there are new artists in our Dropbox folder. Hopefully, things will slow down enough for me to give them a listen.

Hi Stuart, Thanks for your reaction. Yes nice coincidence. I used to listen to them a lot but last weekend remembered them for some reason and loaded some of their cd's again. Great rediscovery!!!

Hey, Stuart! Thanks for the shout. We are in back-to-school mode in these parts--getting ready for classes next week, to be exact. But it's been a decent summer overall; I hope you're able to say the same.

Hello Stuart! Wow, the Metheny show exceeded all expectations ... he played for almost 2 - 1/2 hours!! There were a couple of "old" favorites he re-intepreted backed by his Orchestrion, and of course her performed all of the new record. What an amazingly talented and prolific artist ... you're going to have a great time! (ps - I love the new Jonsi record, saw him last month).

Ooh - just saw you've been listening to the Jimmy Giuffre 3 - I've been on a big Giuffre kick this last 6 months or so. Particularly love the Thesis/Fusion/Flight/Free Fall quartet, but also enjoying a lot of the work on the complete Capitol and Atlantic Recordings 6 disc set.

Hello Stuart, good to hear from you (still listening to Suba thanks!) That's their opera isn't it? I haven't heard it, I did listen quite a lot to Silent Shout when it came out, but haven't kept up with them. Is it orchestral/operatic and worth seeking out then?

Great minds and all that, yes I already checked the Similar Artists, but much as I like Cibelle and Bebel they don't really relate - that's the downside of crowd-sourced taste... I love Ceu's debut album, haven't heard Vagarosa, but have just seen it's on Spotify as is Juana Molina so will check them out - many thanks again!

Thanks again Stuart. This interview with Scott in The Guardian is worth a read. Also, for a much more accessible side of Scott please do give a listen to the top tracks on his last.fm page - they're beautiful and varied and easier than his later work!

Many thanks Stuart for your comment on the blog, will definitely have to check Suba out. It sounds like it might be as pleasurable as Ceu's debut. I see you've played the first three tracks of The Drift - were you already familiar with it? I think I made it pretty clear in my post that it's not a pleasant experience, but still I might feel a bit guilty about introducing it to people. From your description I suspect it's antithetical to Suba. In fact I need up and positive music in my life at the moment so thank you in advance!

Hello Stuart, hope you're very well. I've just chosen my album of the decade and I'd like to hear which album you would choose and why. If you think the idea's preposterous, no worries at all, but if not please leave a comment on my blog post. Thanks a lot!

Fair call on obvious tho I have about 60+ Oz artists in my charts. The thing is i guess is that they are not a prolific as others. I have plat=yed 4 Oz artists this morn but as I have followed Tull since the 60's no surprise they hold a strong place in my playlists. I have one Oz band playing now in fact plus as it happens and 2 queued two from your country. Our Lady Peace and The Matthew Good Band. Both of which I have been impressed with. Cheers.

Aye i do like the Tull so various tracks tend to endup on my play lists on a regular basis. Plus as with most Tull there are several levels to the song and its lyrics that i find interesting. Thanks for the shout is always good to hear from Canadians. A curious trait I notice tho is the lack of Canadian artists in most peoples list from there. Yet some really talented people have come from there.

Hey there Stuart ... sorry it took so long to get back to you! The Metric show was GREAT: real high energy in a small venue, and Emily Haines is a fantastic front-person (I love the new record as far as "alternative rock" goes)! I also saw The Decemberists perform "Hazards of Love" on Friday night, and that was one of the most exhilarating concert experiences in a long time. I'm seeing Bela Fleck and Toumani Diabate in a couple of weeks ... have you heard Bela's new CD (collaboration with various African artists)? Thanks for the Madeleine Peyroux review and for spinning some Oi Va Voi ... are your Easy Star All-Stars plays the Beatles record, or one of the earlier covers?

Stuart--Here's an inadequate and blanket Thank You for the fabulous music you've been posting on Drop Box. I've become a big fan of Grizzly Bear, so your sharing the new album was most welcome--but because of you, I've also learned a little bit about Nigerian high life, Fareed Haque's work beyond Garag Mahal, Old Californio . . . you get the idea. Thanks again.

Hey Stuart, I've got one for you to check out. It's a band out of Boston called Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles. I caught them in concert recently and they put on a great show. They've put out 2 CD's; one of which I bought off of the band after the concert. "Diamonds In The Dark" really showcases Sarah's voice. I talked with her after their show and asked who her influences were. She mentioned Patsy Cline, Lucinda Williams, Chrissie Hynde, Sheryl Crow and Bonnie Raitt, which gives you an idea of what their music is like. Where "Diamonds In The Dark" is a little more "twangy," as their bassist described to me, "The Stars Are Out" has more of a rock influence. I haven't had a opportunity to listen to it yet, but if the show was any indication, you definitely hear the influence of the early version of The Pretenders. Their CD's are on Sugar Hill Records. Give them a listen and tell me what you think.

Great to hear from you Stuart. Unfortunately, I am back in the States. The global economic downturn hit our company forcing organizational restructuring. My sister and her husband were kind enough to take me in so I'm back in my hometown after 30 years of being away...very strange feeling. There is an upside. I have gotten involved with a group called the Alabama Blues Project whose function is to promote and preserve the blues native to the state of Alabama. They have their first big summer event coming up this weekend and I am looking forward to it. The summer concert season has also started and there are some really good music venues within easy driving distance. I am planning on taking in as much as possible. Looking forward to sharing some of my experiences with you. Ciao.
