Was at Boxcar Books' 4th Annual Rock 'N Roll Prom at The Second Story. Great music, wild times - one of the highlight was the female MC (Sheryl?) supposedly arriving late, and then showing up in a bloody butcher's outfit wielding a huge kitchen knife. Complete with goth make-up. And then there's the dude wearing a sleeveless undershirt - and Clockwork Orange-style tight pants. Dances quite well too. And the charming Boxcar volunteers were gathered at the corner where we hung out.
Thanks to Rhapsody I am now in the possession of (leased?) copies of some of the songs they played that night. Almost lost one of them - the tune disappeared from my head (I was juggling three or four songs) and the lyrics were not exactly clear, but accidentally found it when browsing similar songs.
Quite a few songs by The Clash, though at first I only noticed Rock the Casbah - the song I almost forgot! The Mothertruckin' DJs also spun Should I Stay or Should I Go and I Fought the Law.
Lots of Johnny Cash songs including Folsom Prison Blues, Jackson, and Cocaine Blues, by Ali Cash, the female impersonator (not bad, apart from singing two octaves too high) with Madeline as June Carter ("I really like the way you talk" - "Well, my mouth is up here!")
Kind of cool too when the Michael Jackson song Billie Jean kept being interrupted (intentionally) by the Redondo Beach Party (not your mother's beach party, they look like Sepultura) as they warm up.
And now to find out why I have Across A Thousand Blades as the top-played song in my history. I've totally forgotten the band! Too bad that particular album is not on Rhapsody yet.
Back to hunting for the song list that Apple shipped with my iBook G3 oh-so-long ago - hopefully Tenniru could help there, since he mentioned one of those prepackaged songs, The World Isn't Fair as his favorite. So far I've only managed to retrieve that, and Jesus, Etc.. Though I remember there was this really charming female singer whose album cost too much (17 poundsterling) ..
