M83’s Saturdays = Youth was released in April 2008; however it took me almost two long months to listen. Anthony Gonzalez’s new album is an elegantly dramatized, impressingly produced work, which can also be designated as one of the best studio efforts of this year. M83 is closer to shoegaze than post rock now, paying a tribute to the likes of Cocteau Twins. Having been produced by Ken Thomas and Ewan Pearson, no surprise this album reflects the inspiration of 80’s new wave and dark wave, with a high-quality blend of shoegaze, dominating the sound.
Midnight Souls Still Remain, You, Appearing, Skin of the Night, Too Late are my present favourite tracks form Saturdays = Youth.
Listening to this beautiful “Too Late”, I remember my late friend Izet, whose death tore me apart, years before. He comes to my dreams from time to time. Last night, he was there with a baby boy, whom he introduced me as his son. His son who will never be born… Too late?
“I look into your eyes
Diving into the ocean
I look into your eyes
Falling!
Like a wall of stars
We are ripe to fall
And if you are a ghost
I'll call your name again
And if you are a ghost
I'll call your name…
You, always.”
Well, thank you, Gonzales. It’s a magnificent album, giving me a memory from the dreams and illusion. I’ve saved this album to a special folder in my heart.
