Reborn: A Post-Rock Story

22. Jun. 2011, 18:41

Lately I've been writing a story. Its a story about initial

hopelessness, and finding oneself in this world amidst the

distractions; its about finding who you are and finding love.

And the perfect soundtrack to such a story I discovered, is a

genre of music called post-rock.

The wikipedia describes it as such, "Post-rock is a subgenre

of progressive rock[1] characterized by the use of

instruments commonly associated with rock music, but using

rhythms and "guitars as facilitators of timbre and textures"

not traditionally found in rock. Post-rock musicians typically

produce instrumental music."

This instrumental often 'ambient' and moody layered style of

textured music fits in perfectly with the story I am trying to

Some songs are soft, some are hard, some are in-between

and they all do a good job of showing triumph, anger, pain,

sadness, apathy, and every mood of life you come across.

For your pleasure I've included some links to YouTube videos

of some of my top song picks:

Explosions in the Sky - "First Breath After Coma" :

Caspian - "Vienna" :

God Is An Astronaut - "Worlds In Collision" :

If These Trees Could Talk - "From Roots to Needles" :

Red Sparowes - "In Every Mind" :

There's 5 of my picks.
