  • The return of The Joy of Nature

    19. Aug. 2014, 15:59

Everything follows its own course, so no ending should ever be announced. After some time of inactivity, The Joy of Nature is back.
The brand new “Two Leaves Left” is a mini-album just released in a limited edition to 50 copies. It comes in a package in black satin with two leaves made out of fish flakes. On the inside there’s a jakebox with a vinyl-like CDr.

It contains 7 new songs and more than 28 minues of music. The tracklist is the following:

    01. Inland empire
    02. the girl with the razor waiting by the sea
    03. the locked king
    04. winter is coming
    05. behind the window
    06. water never passes through a river in the same way
    07. the boy with the gun waiting by the sea

The video made for its last song –“the boy with the gun waiting by the sea” can be seen here - http://youtu.be/b7CWb9PfNCw

And two other tracks were made available on soundcloud:

    - the locked king: https://soundcloud.com/luisrcouto/the-joy-of-nature-the-locked-king

    - the girl with razor waiting by the sea: https://soundcloud.com/luisrcouto/the-joy-of-nature-the-girl-with-the-razor-waiting-by-the-sea

It’s a record about isolation, memories from the past and the way out of it all, “the great void of joy”

It’s available through The Joy of Nature’s online store:

  • New The Joy of Nature 7'' single

    16. Feb. 2013, 18:59

The Joy of Nature’s first life cycle started with a 7’’ single back on 2006 and it closes too with a 7’’ single – “A Ilha Que Perdeu O Encanto” (which can be translated as something like “The Island That Lost Its Charm”), released by New Approach Records.
This single feature 3 tracks with the good old The Joy of Nature sound, a return to the origins in terms of sound, but with another maturity. Its sound is mainly acoustic, including some exotic instruments like the kantele (from Finland), the duduk (from Armenia) and the viola da terra (12 string guitar from Azores).

Water flows through the music like it flows all over the island.

The title refers not only to a physical island that lost trace of its traditions and magic, but also to a state of isolation so characteristic of modern lives.

The video of the first song of this 7’’ single can be seen and heard here:

  • "My Work Was Not Yet Done" by The Joy of Nature

    14. Apr. 2012, 23:34

“My Work Was Not Yet Done” – the new album by The Joy of Nature – was finally released.

A new videoclip from a song of the album – “A song to the sun” – is now available at youtube:

On February two videoclips from this album were already made available. For those who didn’t catch it at the time, here are the links:

“My Work Was Not Yet Done” is a very eclectic album, song oriented. Less dark than the albums from “The Empty Circle” trilogy, “My Work Was Not Yet Done” comes from the experience, and not only the concept, of how life is a dream within a dream, how everything flows and passes away. It started just after “a evasão das fadas” and it’s really my favourite The Joy of Nature album. It counted with the collaborations of Rui Almeida (Massa Última, both in music and graphic design), GrMateo (Igniis, who previously collaborated on “a evasão das fadas”), Mara Neves (that also sang “Tanchão”), Helena Ferreira and Ricardo Farias.

  • NEW SPLIT DOUBLE ALBUM BY THE JOY OF NATURE & TEATRO GROTESCO

    5. Jun. 2011, 23:40

A split double album between The Joy of Nature and Teatro Grotesco – Rehearsals for Departure – is now available, only as digital download at The Joy of Nature’s bandcamp:

    http://thejoyofnature.bandcamp.com/album/reharsals-for-departure

Almost two hours of music by The Joy of Nature and its weird twin Teatro Grotesco showing the most experimental side of both projects. Not only the most experimental side, but also the most abstract one. Even though the music is abstract, it tells a story.
On The Joy of Nature side, the album contains 10 selections from the rehearsal sessions for the 2010 concerts at Lisbon and Oporto and one track recorded live at Lisbon. The Joy of Nature, by then, was Luís Couto and Gianna and these rehearsals capture The Joy of Nature in a natural form: there are no effects, no overdubs. The music took shape at the same moment is was coming into being, like something magical.
The music on Teatro Grotesco side was created in a studio environment, but using some improvisation. It is very difficult to describe and different from what Teatro Grotesco has done before, closer to “avantgarde” and post rock / post something else.
It captures the abstract inner feeling of a completely insane outside world ruled by invisible waves, finances and corporations.

Now, all releases by The Joy of Nature are available at Bandcamp as digital download

After this digital edition, new releases by both projects in “physical format” will appear.

  • The return of Teatro Grotesco

    29. Apr. 2011, 14:09

Teatro Grotesco’s second release – the EP “Live at Arco 8” is now available, only as a digital download at Teatro Grotesco’s bandcamp

    http://teatrogrotesco.bandcamp.com/

This album was recorded live at Arco 8 on 2009-12-12. Teatro Grotesco on this performance were LC and Gianna de Toni and, besides electronics, the instruments used were heavy metallic percussion, electric guitar and contrabass. If “at the House of Dolls” had a kind of dark cinematic ambient sound, this contains moments quite more brutal, closer to Industrial music. Video projections were used on this performance, creating a claustrophobic ambience. We are used to see images of violence everyday on the media, cinema, etc. but when those images are presented in a certain way, with a certain sound, some find it unbearable. At least half of the audience left at this live performance, proving its effectiveness.

An excerpt of the performance is available at youtube

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A76ASUFvsPw

Also available at Teatro Grotesco’s bandcamp is “at the House of Dolls”, for free, and the only album of the first Teatro Grotesco’s incarnation – Post Crash High’s “The apocalypse came yesterday and no one noticed”.

More new releases from Teatro Grotesco will soon appear.
