Again, I only listened to music for about 7 months this year (what a travesty!), so the spectrum is slightly less broad this year. These are my favorite songs that I was introduced to in 2008:

1. MGMT - Kids

This was the anthem to one of the best summers of my life. The song was seemigly ubiquitous, whether blaring in Hallie's Neon on the way out, surprising Tim and I at eighties night at the Drink, or just coming out of Levi's guitar at open mic night at Sazerac. Good memories…

2. MIA - Paper Planes

I remember first hearing this song on an on-demand video. I immediately downloaded a pirated version online, played it 8 or 9 times that day, and fell in love. This song has most definitely inspired some of the most intense dancing I did all year. I actually lost an MIA dance competition at a party to some guy who looked like Farnsworth Bentley.

3. Clear Days Always - Pacifier

A standout track on a sampler MP3 album I downloaded, hearing this prompted me to purchase the whole album at Vertigo. We actually got to play with these guys this year, which was an added bonus, although they never played my song. Or "That Pizza Tasted Nasty".

4. The Appleseed Cast - Hanging Marionette

The Appleseed Cast always seem to find a way to get a song in my top 10 every year. This was my favorite track off Two Conversations. I will remember this as a specific hit on a mix CD I burned for Hallie.

5. The Wrens - She Sends Kisses

The biggest new song on the biggest album of my year. It represents the album because superior tracks "Boys, You Won't" and "Happy" were sleepers on my computer that took me years to catch on to. I tried to learn this song for open mic night at Gardella's, but the lyrics are impossible to remember!

6. We Are Scientists - Textbook

This song first hit the radar as I listened to "With Love and Squalor" while voluntarily driving the sick and elderly to doctor's appointments for Red Cross last winter. Eventually it stood out as an excellent track and garnered mix CD attention.

7. The Twilight Sad - Cold Days from the Birdhouse

I got this song off of the free MP3's Pitchfork gave away with their 2007 year end list. I love it for the singer's intense scottish accent and because the song is a slow boil that eventually builds to a poignant finish.

8. Via Audio - We Can Be Good

We saw these guys randomly at Founder's one night, and Tim decided their performance warranted buying their album. This song will mostly remind me of my final room at 1611 and warm days and nights listening to it on playlists with the window open.

9. Cap'n Jazz - Little League

This one was a free download via last.fm. Tim originally downloaded it and I caught on to the famous "kitty kitty cat, cats love hats" part when the song would frequent the radio in Tim's car from his iPod. It turned out the song was very emotional and energetic in addition to being hilarious.

10. Radiohead - Ceremony

This was the first new song I heard in 2008. It prompted a facination with Joy Division and garnered a love for the "Ceremony" video. This song reminds me of my holiday last year spent in New Baltimore missing my dog.
