Well, this game (round 3) actually will have 24 artists because there are two
STLs and I'm listening to P.A.L. & P·A·L. The object is to listen
to at least 3 songs by each artist...I'll only type comments if I feel
inspired. My intent is to familiarize myself with the artists during the
course of the round.

ARTIST ONE: Oneohtrix Point Never
1. Behind the Bank
2. Zones Without People
3.Disconnecting Entirely
4. A Pact Between Strangers
<--I've heard this twice now. It's very (very what?!! I didn't finish my sentence...grrr).
5. Parallel Minds Played twice now...s'okay. I like it. If it were longer, I'd skip ahead after a couple of minutes I think.
6. The Pretender
7. Astral Project T.I.N.A.
8. Nil Admirari
9. Describing Bodies
10. Stress Waves
11. Returnal
12. Pelham Island Road
13. Where Does Time Go
14. Ouroboros
15. Preyouandi

ARTIST TWO: Leonard Cohen - I really like Leonard Cohen. I want to buy one or two of his albums. He's so different from what I usually listen to but wow, I really like listening to him and his music. : )

1. Bird on the Wire I melt. The music is gorgeous, the lyrics touching...and then his voice, oh oh oh tingles all over : )
2. The Partisan The power of this voice...the beauty.
3. Suzanne So soft, I feel it with my heart.

...you know she will trust you because you've touched her perfect body with your mind..."

4. That's No way to Say Goodbye
Wow, this is gorgeous, feels sad...beautiful. His back up singer(s) contrast perfectly with his voice.
5. Hallelujah
6. Dance Me to the End of Love la
la la... I love this song.

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin,
dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in,
Touch me with your naked hand,
Touch me with your glove...

Dance me to the end of love, dance me to the end of love."

7. Famous Blue Raincoat
8. Who by Fire
9. In My Secret Life - I love this, I
love his voice in this song. It's just too sexy, seems a little lower
than the others. Ha, just too sexy.

I saw you this morning.
You were moving so fast.
Can’t seem to loosen my grip
On the past.
And I miss you so much.
There’s no one in sight.
And we’re still making love
In My Secret Life.

I smile when I’m angry.
I cheat and I lie.
I do what I have to do
To get by.
But I know what is wrong,
And I know what is right.
And I’d die for the truth
In My Secret Life.

Hold on, hold on, my brother.
My sister, hold on tight.
I finally got my orders.
I’ll be marching through the morning,
Marching through the night,
Moving cross the borders
Of My Secret Life.

Looked through the paper.
Makes you want to cry.
Nobody cares if the people
Live or die.
And the dealer wants you thinking
That it’s either black or white.
Thank G-d it’s not that simple
In My Secret Life.

I bite my lip.
I buy what I’m told:
From the latest hit,
To the wisdom of old.
But I’m always alone.
And my heart is like ice.
And it’s crowded and cold
In My Secret Life.

10. Tower of Song another nice one. Sexy. Jazzy feel to it.

ARTIST THREE: Drexciya
1. You Don't Know
- First time listening: Yes, I DON'T know. I don't like this that much.
Especially the noise that sounds like a phone. That's annoying. AND the
vocals are annoying. lollerskates fail fail all kinds of fail.
-Second time listening: Weird, I kind of like it this time. A lot.
Aaaack! I'm so inconsistent. Sigh.
2. Digital Tsunami This is pure pleasure,
minutes of teasing, tantalyzing pleasure, it just makes me tingle and
tight. Yes yes yes!
3. Bang Bang I think this track would be
great if they had omitted the vocals. "bang bang" x 1000 is annoying.
Midway through the 3rd minute, they stop but its only a brief
respite...within a minute, they start up again.
4. Drexcyen Star Chamber Nice vibes.
5. Birth of New Life The final track on the album Harnessed the Storm. Scrumptious.

Listening to: Drexciya - Harnessed the Storm. The more I listen to Drexciya, the more impressed I am by their music. I think I'll throw them into back into the game (Round IV - V) just for a refresher course.

Listening to: Drexciya - Neptune's Lair My opinion? This album is a masterpiece. A techno journey into aquatic space? Okay! Adventurous? Yes. Exciting? Yes. Funky and fun? Yes, yes, yes.

I found a good review of Neptune's Lair, written in 2002 by "Seasnake" (Discogs); I am copy/pasting it unaltered, here, to read while listening.

classical record. a masterpiece. starts off with the very mysterious
"temple of dos de aqua" and then kicking the record off with "species of
the pod", a progressive trip into the deepest realms of space. the
third track, "andreaen sand dunes" shows what drexciya does best,
incredibly beautiful harmonies smashed togheter with a perfect rhythm.
this is astonishing. i doubt any track touches me as this one do.
"running out of space" is another example of the genious minds behind
drexciya. perfect harmonies, very gentle but still mysterious in some
way. nr 5 is another one of my favourites, "habitat 'o' negative". the
intro takes you further into the deepest ocean, sinking deeper and
deeper, and then blasting off with a very plain beat accompined by a
heavy and funky bassline. pure genious. "universal element", "drifting
into a time of no future" and "polymono plexusgel" are all great tracks
aswell. what hits me is that drexciya are really good of showing us what
they really want. the aquatic space-feeling is definetly there, and i
love it. "surface terrestrial colonication" is another example of what
drexciya can accomplish and adds to the myth that drexciya record all
their tracks live. this is a very simple track, verse and chorus are
perfectly blended and on top of this a incredibly good synthlead. this
is music. this is genious. "funk realease valve" comes next, a fast
funky piece of electro with warm sounds and as always a simple beat.
great. "organic hydropoly spores" and "draining of the tanks" are two of
the oddest tracks, but they add to the aquatic space-feeling in a
excellent way. "devil ray cave" and "fusion flats" are both very
rhythmic and odd tracks and there is not much to say except that
drexciya's genious minds can be better expressed then this way.
"triangular hydrogen strain" is exactly that way. a playful and rhythmic
masterpiece, the melodies somehow remind me of videogames but with the
usual drexciya-twist to it. very nice. "oxyplasmic gyration beam" is a
weird piece of music, but the drexciya feeling is very real. beautiful
harmonies combined with a very odd beat. "quantum hydrodynamics" is
another example of the drexciya brilliance. warm and creepy sounds climb
up your spine, and the aquafeeling doest come closer. "lost vessel"
breaks the atmosphere. a distinct and funky track with a wicked melodie
and warm pads. this shows you that electrofunk is so brilliant with the
easy yet clever harmonies. "bottom feeders" is a weird and simple track,
leaving a feeling of emptiness burried in the ocean. the japanese
arcadefeeling in "jazzy fluids" is awesome in a ironic way, and still
they manage to show us that you shouldnt mess with there brilliance in
music. "c to the power of x + c to the power of x = mm = unknown" raps
it all up. and in what a way. the emptiness combined with the totally
huge melodies is scary. it isnt human to make something this good. pure
brilliance.

so, what more to say? buy this record. its worth all the money in the
world. this is great.

ARTIST FIVE: Roska Roska was in Round 1 or 2 but brought back for Round 3 because of his new album, "Roska" (2010 release by Rinse). I wish some of these tracks were available for listening on last.fm. They would fit nicely into some of my playlists. I like the bass and beats in most of Roska's music. 1. Relaxin' With Cherry Yummy, deep bass
sounds with a smooth, bouncy melody.

pretty, smooth, melodic, strong beats...I like the instrumentation (is
that even a word?). Could say this is a slow, dreamy track. Wins a heart
from me. : )

baby, is a little bit of your soul, but you're too cold baby, and your
blood don't flow...

ARTIST NINE: Vex'd
1. Killing Floor Yes, yes, nasty nasty. I
love it. This definitely goes into my Echo's whip whip playlist. Let me
hurt you, baby. Tormenting, bruising madness. :p
Later listen: This track kind of lags until 2:30 - 2:40ish. I still like
it.
2. Ghost At first listen, I thought "nice,
hot throbbing punishing beats." Well, I guess it depends... now, I'm
listening and the beats seems kind of weak. Sigh.
3. Lion Nothing spectacular, here. Maybe,
I'm not in the mood for this now and next time, I'll love it! :)
4. Crusher Dub hawt!
5. Disposition featuring Jest. Hip hoppy
dubalicious? Ha, I just wanted to type that word. ; )

7. Oceans <--I like this
8. Slug Trawl Depths

ARTIST TEN: Vibrasphere - After listening to 15 tracks
by Vibrasphere, I am a little surprised by how much I enjoy their music
in general.
1. Breathing Place Well, I just listened to Lion by Vex'd and it was a bit too punishing for me at this time of day. Breathing Place seems soothing and dreamy...almost romantic.... kind of playful.
2. Erosion this is great, I'd like to hear the original. I think the track I'm listening to is the Analog Tape Mix.
3. Tierra Azul...I vaguely remember loving this back when it was first released 3-4 years ago.
4. Vertical
5. Wasteland
6. Soul Wire
7. Silver Sun
8 Northern Sunsets
9 In Control
10 Breathing Place
11 Analog Marinade
12 Isolation
13 Erosion
14 Floating Free
15 Floating Free (Dub Mix)
16. San Pedro <-another favorite from the 2000 - 2001 era.
17. Floating Free (Sync 24 Vs I M LGND Remix)
18. 16. Follow Me
19. Ensueno
20. Analog Marinade Whoa... I'm
definitely bouncing to the beat. Aw, I want to hear it again. I was

think I think I like this!

☆ ¡¡¡¡ ❤ ♬ ❤ ¡¡¡¡ ☆☆ ¡¡¡¡ ❤ ♬ ❤ ¡¡¡¡ ☆☆ ¡¡¡¡ ❤ ♬ ❤ ¡¡¡¡ ☆☆ ¡¡¡¡ ❤ ♬ ❤ ¡¡¡¡ ☆☆ ¡¡¡¡ ❤

ARTIST ELEVEN: Scanner - Robin Rimbaud. I listened to
the album Spore (released 1995) from start
to finish. It was very enjoyable though sometimes the conversations
that we eavesdrop in on are a bit tedious; more oft than not however,
they are rather entertaining. The sounds in this album and on some of
the other tracks are very amazing. Professor Rimbaud does well.
1. Immemory...whoa, this is fantastic once
you get past the first two minutes. Very powerful. Very seductive,
teases you into the cave of darkness, swirling and twirling you deeper,
now pounding pounding pounding you into a frenzy and then calming you,
soothing you into numbness.
2. Ground Veil...interesting ride on an
elevator...the sounds on this track are fantastic. I wish wish wish
there were no vocals. I'd love it. As it is, I can't stand it.
3. Documenta X well, this is nothing
great. Just another grumbling rumbling ambient track with a twist of psy
sprinkled here and there.
4. Sans Soleil again, nothing great...it
looks like it was in my loved tracks and one of my playlists in the
past. I don't know why. I really don't like the vocals; they kind of
spoil it the whole track for me. Now, I would like it if after 2:55 the
vocals were removed...
5. Spyder Oh, I like the rumble...overall
this track is okay. Again nothing great but I enjoyed it, actually I
liked it a lot. However, if it had been longer, I would have skipped
forward to the next music. *shrugs*
6. Raso - excellent. He didn't pick up any
chatter with his cell phone scanner. Just cool sounds. I like this.
This might quickly become one of my Scanner favourites.
7. full fathom
8. Throne of Hives
9. Trawl Disappearance
10. Trono
11. When We Arrive At The Other Side I Will Kiss
You

12. 915.675
13. 394 - This is the 3rd track of the
Spore album. I'm listening to the tracks
on this album in sequence... kind of cool. I love the sounds he uses and
at times the telephone convos are a bit entertaining.
14. Strom
15. Lacuna
16. Rf Radiation
17. Silver
18. Flyjazz - ha, this is fantastic.
There's a fly buzzing around here and there on this track.
19. Prudenda
20. Naked
21. at the end of the day
22. Arc - Always a favorite. Gorgeous.
23. fold twice

ARTIST TWELVE: Spyra I consider Spyra one of my own treasures (haha) because I found him on my own, no one shared him with me or introduced him to me on our Saturday radio shows. I loved the first music I heard by him, mechanic piano.
1. Crossing the Channel Oh, I like this. Very nicely put together. Some of the longer ambient tracks get boring...this one feels like a journey, an exciting journey. Very cool.
2. Source I've started to listen to this twice and both times I didn't get to finish it...
3. 10-12 meters

I'm now listening to the album Sferics which I purchased for this round. The question of the moment is do I, will I still love "Mechanic Piano" as much as I remember loving it when I first heard it?

1. mechanic piano
2. sferics
3. interzen
4. 10-12 meters
5. gentle machines
6. Crossing the Channel
7. vinyl vs cards
8. v.c. piano

dance to...in fact, brb, dancing! ; )
2. Me and You Baby (Picao y
Tostao)
Me and you, baby, alright...." Alright, dance!

think I confuse Klaus Wiese and Spyra.
2. Drunken Leglol, yeah, who is Klaus
Wiese? I think I bought an album that I really liked. And I like this. I
need to pay attention! Smack smack.

Okay, now, I am listening to the album Perfume that I purchased for this
game.
1. Velvet Octaves This is the first
track on the album. I remember listening to this before and liking it.

ARTIST FIFTEEN: David Parsons First heard this artist
back in 2006ish. I don't remember what the music sounds like, just that I
like it....
1. Tjampuhan - oh this is
lovely...it's an adventure, gentle, magical moments interspersed with
danger and darkness... three wows on 2nd listen. Gorgeous. I would like
to have this music playing one day when I make love to a man...teasing,
swirling madness. Yes!
2. Akbar - wow. Very nice.
3. Ararat Legong
4. Dorje Ling Another gorgeous piece
of music. It feels like a beautiful spring day, lounging in the garden,
the sun overhead, warming, a gentle breeze cooling, the sea bright and
calm before me, a cumulus cloud here, there serving only to accentuate
the brilliant blue of the sky. I hear the distant church bells ringing, a
bee buzzing nearby...I drift into a day dream, imagining...awakening
moments later, the clouds have puffed up, darkened, moved in front of
the sun, the gentle breeze strengthening; it is now windy. The sky and
the sea are now gray, darkening...we welcome the darkness...
5. Maitreya

ARTIST SIXTEEN: Stars of the Lid

1. Fac 21 hmmm, this track has
played for me 5, 6 times...it's the only Stars of the Lid track that
plays on my radio? Arrrgh. I am not going to buy an album after only
listening to one track and this one track is not that great,
though I have to admit I like it more now than when it first played. :P

K, finally! A different track. Could be because I added the artist's tracks to a playlist and I'm listening to the playlist....

2. The Daughters of Quiet Minds I don't know what I expected; it's been a couple of months since I listened to FAC 21. It's ambient, drone... it has a nice feel, soothing, calming...they do manage to create some tension, instill a feeling of anticipation...I'm a little interested in hearing more by these two.

3. A Meaningful Moment Through a Meaning(less) Process Well, I enjoyed this track. If someone played it during an ambient radio show (set), I'd undoubtedly oooh and aaah. :)

4. Tippy's Demise Yummy bass in the beginning...

3. Landed hmm, ok, I like
this. S'okay. Feats Wendy Page.
4. Meaning
5. Multiplies (feat. Wendy Page)
6. Humanity Feat. Louise Rhodes. Sexy beat.

K, here's the album which got Gerald Simpson back into this game for another round, "Black Secret Technology." I purchased the remastered edition which I understand is a little different from the original release (1995).

I'm not at home
I have no instruments, no instruments,
I'm using yours,
I'm throwing pillows on the floor, on the floor
and when I'm home, I'm not at home
and when I'm home, I'm not at home
I'm having thoughts of driving in a storm
i was in a storm

I'm not in love
I'd like to say I never was, never was
it wasn't real, now I can say it wasn't real...

and when I'm home, I'm not at home
and when I'm home, I'm not at home
I'm crossing fingers I won't run into
run into you.

And when I'm home, I'm not at home...

Featured Album #1: Music for Falling From Trees This album was created for a contemporary dance by Adrienne Hart. The dance and the music "tells the story of a man in a psychiatric hospital, and his struggle to maintain his identity. The music is sometimes melancholic, sometimes playful, sometimes chaotic, but with the combination of piano and strings, full of beauty, reverence and awe."

1. Part 1: An Introduction to the Patient
2. Part 2: Patient Observation
3. Part 3: Pill Induced Slumber
4. Part 4: The Dream
5. Part 5: Awaken/Panic/Restraint
6. Part 6: Electroconvulsive Shock
7. Part 7: The Path to Recovery

Featured Album #2: Home 2008.

1. Games
2. And It's Alright
3. With The Notes In My Ears
4. Esbern Snares Gade 11, 2tv
5. Below It
6. Sickness, Bury
7. Not At Home
8. There And Here
9. Maps
10. Games Again

I've always loved "Maps," "Not At Home," and "Games Again," probably a couple others at one time or another. Put them all together and you have a beautiful stream in the middle of a quiet forest. The album flows well, gently pleasing, gently provocative.

Featured Album #3: Float 2008. Here's a review, written in 2008, copied from discogs (http://www.discogs.com/Peter-Broderick-Float/release/1331089)

Perhaps it's possible to stop comparing some contemporary classical musicians to Max Richter, and instead begin comparing them to Peter Broderick.

After a release of a 7" single on John Twells' (Xela) Type Records, Portland based Peter Broderick emerges with a full length album, Float. For this release, Broderick borrows his friends Amanda Lawrence for string and vocal work, and Skyler Norwood to aid in recording and effects from a collaboration on Loch Lomond's Paper The Walls (Hush Records, 2007).

Float is immediately bold, familiar, and elegant. As any soundtrack written for a passing life, it transcends its message past the minor key. At first the album sounds too comfortable, like a soft blanket thrown over the frigid winter feet. I feel as if I've heard this sound before, perhaps in a forgotten film, or as a fragment of a beloved prelude. But as I let my mind break down the composition, the messages begin to emerge.

I'll let you hear your own details - I'd hate to lock the music into words. Broderick's banjo playing adds an interesting element to the ensemble of the [usual] piano, strings and an occasional guitar. And I can't help but draw a parallel between the ages of Broderick and Ólafur Arnalds - both are only twenty one!

With that said, may I claim that modern classical is at the beginnings of a new cycle, with young multi-instrumentalists incorporating both, organic and electronic, leading the way. Highly recommended! A cozy cinematic score. Check out above mention artists plus Harold Budd, Michael Nyman, Alberto Iglesias, Clint Mansell and of course Jóhann Jóhannsson.

3. A Glacier
4.A Simple Reminder
5. Stopping On The Broadway Bridge
6. Another Glacier
7. Something Has Changed
8. Broken Patterns
9. An Ending
10. A Beginning

Featured Album #4: Music for Congregation. This album was released 2010 by label Erased Tapes. The album features 4 tracks which flow together so it actually feels like one track that is 20 - 25 minutes:

Part 1: Discovery
Part 2: Understanding
Part 3: Differences
Part 4: Disappearance

Sooo magical! I'm a fairy princess, dancing in the morning dew, dreaming of someone... teasing, laughing, blowing a kiss his way, swirling and twirling... welcoming the rising sun, twinkling, blushing, inviting...come, come play with me! The story evolves, he enters the scene, I feel shy but oh, so interested, captivated ... I dance close, closer... we touch! and again! lol Yes, this music is magical. : )

Okay, I see that the 4 tracks from Music for Congregation and 7 tracks from Music for Falling From Trees are combined on Music For Contemporary Dance.

I do enjoy Peter Broderick's music! : )

ARTIST TWENTY: Pete Namlook One of the ourboard radio
djs first played "While Angels Sleep" for me 4,5 years ago; it's been a
favourite ever since.

1. Spiritual Invocation This is
gorgeous but it sounds like the track got cut off half way through. I
should buy the album; it might continue directly into the next track on
the album. Actually, I have this album. I'll have to investigate
further....
2. Breeze 38 seconds? ugh
3. The Real World Wow, this music
is all kinds of goodness, great dance tune (yes yes, I'm dancing!).
Weeeeeeee! Fun track.
4. Picnic hmm...
5. Orion Transfer
14
. This is good. I should listen to all of the Shades of Orion
tracks. I have the CD...somewhere. :/
6. Orion Transfer
9
Hmm, I think it ended rather abruptly. I think if the music is
continued into the next track, they should just combine the two (or
three or four tracks) into one.
7. Aquarium
Okay, another "good" one. 25 minutes. It starts out kind of slow so
after maybe 5, 8 minutes I was a little bored. But by the finish, I
realized I had enjoyed the track. It felt like an exciting adventure...
we delved a bit into the unknown...felt a little frightened at times...

ARTIST TWENTY-ONE: Bohren & der Club of Gore Wow,
this "noir jazz" owns my soul it seems, so perfectly capturing my mood,
so sexy, teasing, full of promises...ah, gorgeous. Touch me. ; )

1. Prowler smooth,
relaxing...sitting on the front porch, sipping wine, gazing across the
garden, out, over the sea...this is gorgeous.
2. Midnight Walker ❤❤❤
3. On Demon Wings❤❤❤
4. Dead End Angels ❤❤❤

Album: Dolores 2008
1. Staub
2. Karin
3. Schwarze Biene (Black Maja)
4. Unkerich - so beautiful when the sax comes in around 3 minute mark... ❤ ❤ ❤
5. Still am Tresen
6. Welk Ooooh, this is wicked, it makes me tremble with desire.
7. von Schnäbeln
8. Orgelblut
9. Faul
10. Welten Hmm, this is gorgeous. So deep and dark. Play me.

I want to hear what the group sounded like before the sax. Reiner
Henseleit played guitar until 1996 and was replaced by Christoph Clöser
and his sax in 1997. So, next I will listen to one of the albums that I
purchased which was released in 1995, Midnight Radio. I'm so impressed
by this band's sounds.

11. Midnight Radio
1
- I can imagine sitting in a dark, almost empty club or even
at home, with only the light from the fireplace before us, with a good
friend or lover, talking quietly, enjoying the dark sounds... Indeed,
the guitar solo that runs through the 22 minutes is teasing, riveting,
quite sensuous.

3. Goin To The Club (Club Jam) all kinds of

I want someone to dance with,
I want someone to take me,
I need someone to freak me,
I need someone to hold me.
