    Hello! Greetings from France :)

    Dienstag Morgen
  • sparrow1970

Yeah I dig your zine, it's so cool to see people enthusiastic about underground music. I love dishing about music. My activity here has died down the past year, but I still appreciate the charts they keep here, always reminds me of what was blowing my mind at such & such a time. The Bandcamp thing is cool, right?! You can look at what someone has there & instantly check it out, I love it. If you make a page for yourself, let me know!!

No problems! The track is amazing, I just wish the track was a little bit longer. Big fan of long-ass track lengths here! haha

@plattentectonik if you see this: you have your profile private so I cannot reply to your PM. I can definitely recommend some Durutti Column. Start with his debut, Return Of, and next try Another Setting for something similar, or go for Vini Reilly if you want to hear him shifting gears. Look at my library plays to see how often I've played my favorites. Fidelity is another favorite, as is Someone Else's Party.

I'm generally ok with people dismissing stuff if they aren't into much music but when people who are exploring experimental music start getting like that then /that's/ when it starts to irk me. And it's exactly what you said -- none of us would be enjoying the music we do if we didn't go out of our comfort zone and try to understand the appeal of certain music. And glad you're enjoying the Zs release! Waiting for a higher quality rip before I revisit it :D

dude was way too antagonistic so i had to respond in an equally silly manner. obviously i don't know what the guy was thinking but i think the biggest problem with the way people consume music now is that it's so easy to simply brush things off based off our preferences. like, i think there's a lot of value in understanding an artist's intention and gaining something meaningful from a piece of art even when it's not something you enjoy.

Hey! I love Sonny Sharrock and particularly his recordings with his wife Linda. Yes he's a real one off and he died relatively young not long after his "comeback" of sorts. This is a great track by Joe Bonner (Pharoah's pianist of choice for a period) featuring Linda Sharrock https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60MFXxSsz-E The Album (by Joe Bonner) is called Angel Eyes.

You are welcome to anything in my collection. With one caveat: I don't know how to get the files to you (outside of an email). I'm not on any type of file sharing site. (I usually leave that to mrmocha) However if you want to PM me an email address I'll be happy to send the files to you. (It might take 2 emails as they max attachments at about 25mb) I also have several live shows from the Flaming Lips circa mid 90s if you are interested in any of that as well.

Oh yeah for sure, I always like keeping a list of the older releases that I discover each year! I'm happy you dig Midtown 120 Blues so much though, the album is truly classic. Shame it can't get pressed to vinyl though.

I wasn't really into PC Music at first but they've really grown on me, which I guess is similar to what happened with K-Pop ha. Interested to see if it holds up this year though. The Giant Claw album is great though, yes! It's definitely appearing on my list. I think there are a few moments on the album where a song's pacing gets stunted for the sake of experimentation but overall I think it's a pretty unique and well-constructed. it was super surprising too because i thought i had never heard of the guy before but i had apparently heard his stuff before, it's just that he never did plunderphonics-type music in the past. he runs orange milk records too and does all the artwork!

I've actually been working on making an end year list with blurbs and all, hopefully being the start to a new blog. it's taking a long time though because i'm so busy with school but honestly i don't even care if it's super late... like, i wouldn't be surprised if i finish writing everything for it by the end of february because of everything i have coming up but i find writing about music to be such a rewarding process because it helps me to think more critically about why i like something and it always ends with me appreciating an album more. excited to see your list! lemme know when the blog post is up :D

it's been a pretty weak start of the year for k-pop, which is surprising BUT there was a mini album that was released by Jonghyun (of the group SHINee) recently and I really dig that. One of the lead singles on the mini album was Deja Boo, which I like, but the best track is one called Neon. The production on that is really great and it gets really interesting in the second half.

K-Pop is even more singles-based than western pop so it's kind of difficult to keep up unless you follow it constantly. There are a few albums though that i like and that i also think you could dig! SNSD's three japanese albums are good but i'd check out the most recent one LOVE&PEACE. f(x)'s Pink Tape and Red Light and 2NE1's Crush are probably good/safe choices too.

Hey hey o_t! Couple of questions (mostly Lips related): Did you listen to Electric Würms? I'll admit to a lack of enthusiasm for the Lips output in recent years. That being said, Electric Würms ain't too bad. I liked it. The other is Imagene Peise. (I should have mentioned this to you before Christmas. My bad) I'm to a point in my life where I don't care about the holidays and I REALLY don't care for Christmas music. However a friend sent me a copy of Atlas Eets Christmas and let me tell you, it is fantastic. One of the best Christmas themed albums I've ever heard. Do yourself a favor next December (or earlier) and check out that album (if you haven't already).

Hey. Just saw your shout, sorry, life's been busy for the last year or so. I check last.fm, but never remember to look at the shouts. The quote was from a letter Franz Kafka wrote, and it's always gotten me in some way. As for the recommendations - If you haven't heard Manfred Schoof's album Voices it's an absolute must. I also don't see any Cecil Taylor from searching your artists here, so if you've somehow missed out on him he's one of the most important people ever. Definitely go listen to him right now.

It's a bit all over the place in the sense that there's loads of elements from various tracks thrown in at once so sometimes it results in a mess, other times it works beautifully. But if you're interested in a cv313 live album then go for http://www.discogs.com/cv313-Live/master/182336 which is possibly my favourite release from both Modell & Hitchell. Let me know if you're interested!

I listened to the cv313 things and they're all fantastic. If I'm not completely mistaken Magneta is the second track on this release and Fading Lights probably appears at some point too. I haven't listened to the Modell and Mantra records yet but will do so this weekend!

I mean R&S as a whole ;-) You should definitely check out their other releases; with the Artists has been my introduction to their music and has some extremely deep cuts like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3VG3lBXelg. Showcase /w Tikiman (Paul St. Hilaire) contains my favourite R&S track https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh4bbl6kW84 The Basic Channel releases get regularly re-pressed, I feel like everytime I get the weekly newsletter from Hard Wax some Basic Channel/Maurizio etc. release is back in stock.

They're both pretty darn incredible. I feel The Seduction of Silence rivals Rhythm & Sound at times although R&S sort of remain untouchtable. It's great that winter is upon us so I can stroll around the city listening to The Coldest Season ;-) If you're interested in more Echospace http://www.discogs.com/DeepChord-Presents-Echospace-LIVE/master/388736 comes with the highest recommendation. Also cheers for the drops, you're too kind <3

Seduction of Silence is the album he released as Intrusion. Spotify must have messed up their tags for this one. But yes do give it a listen, it's one of dub techno's crowning achievements. It got the remaster/reissue treatment this year http://www.discogs.com/Intrusion-The-Seduction-Of-Silence/release/6039777 Let me know if you're interested!

I can only stress that you give his Intrusion alias a go as well. Reflection I might me favourite dub techno track of all times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rIj5NTGJBA the stabs are sending me to places and the breakdown 8 minutes in is super deliciously smooth!

I bought the 2xCD off their bandcamp page last December (took until March until I finally had it in the mail (but Stephen Hitchell sent me a nice email in which he apologised for all the delays so I can't be mad!)) so I got that one and the WEB version as well. There's also two additional tracks that are digital only on boomkat that aren't available anywhere else. It's so confusing! I would have bought the LP version but it was why too expensive for me. I think it was $60 :-(

Yeah I haven't revisted Stott yet but I really want to save it for when I'm at home chilling out rather than at work in the background. I'm sure it will grow on me and perhaps even make it on my year end list. Thanks for the recommendations & happy holidays :)

Yeah first two discs are basically a best of and the 3rd disc contains unreleased tracks, edits and remixes. I'm particularly drawn to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8-Cq72LV-o. Cheers for the offer but I've already got that one myself.

I think I need to listen a few more times to really appreciate Ghettoville- I remember freaking out when it leaked while I was on vacation. I've listened to almost all of those! Nice choices, will keep an eye out on your blog. I still need to check out DJ Sprinkles, I have a friend who has also highly recommended that album. I'm going to mainland Europe after xmas and am really looking forward to insane sets at clubs; thats what I'll be making more of an effort to listen to until then.
