I thought I'd offer contrast some choice lyrics from the Rolling Stones' Masterpiece Exile on Main Street and Will Shakespeare's literary wonder, Hamlet. First, here's the famous, and famously pompous advice Polonius gives to his son, Laertes in Act I, scene 3:

See thou character. Give thy thoughts no tongue,
Nor any unproportioned thought his act.
Be thou familiar, but by no means vulgar.
Those friends thou hast, and their adoption tried,
Grapple them to thy soul with hoops of steel;
But do not dull thy palm with entertainment
Of each new-hatch'd, unfledged comrade. Beware
Of entrance to a quarrel, but being in,
Bear't that the opposed may beware of thee.
Give every man thy ear, but few thy voice;
Take each man's censure, but reserve thy judgment.
Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy,
But not express'd in fancy; rich, not gaudy;
For the apparel oft proclaims the man,
And they in France of the best rank and station
Are of a most select and generous chief in that.
Neither a borrower nor a lender be;
For loan oft loses both itself and friend,
And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.
This above all: to thine ownself be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.

Now, here's Keith Richard's Happy. This song is the shaggy underdog hanging in the shadows of Mick, who is at the peak of his powers on Exile. But however great the rest of the record is, it's Happy that's become my favorite track over the years. As you can see, it pretty handily describes the opposite of Polonius's best practices:

Well I never kept a dollar past sunset,
it always burned a hole in my pants.
Never made a school mama happy,
never blew a second chance.
I need a love to keep me happy,
I need a love to keep me happy.
Baby, baby keep me happy.
Baby, baby keep me happy.
Always took candy from strangers,
didn't wanna get me no trade.
Never want to be like papa,
working for the boss ev'ry night and day.
I need a love to keep me happy,
I need a love to keep me happy.
Baby, baby keep me happy.
Baby, baby keep me happy.
Never got a flash out of cocktails,
when I got some flesh off the bone.
Never got a lift out of Lear jets,
when I can fly way back home.
I need a love to keep me happy,
I need a love to keep me happy.
Baby, baby keep me happy.
Baby, baby keep me happy.

This video performance of Happy is one of the best Stones performances I've seen on the interweb. Enjoy.

My apologies, you do have to click through to actually see the video. :(
