  • Because I like to do a pointless journal entry every few months or so...

    15. Mär. 2007, 17:18

Name your top 10 most played bands in the last three months on Last.FM:

    1. The Beatles
    2. Snow Patrol
    3. Coldplay
    4. Moby
    5. Dido
    6. Celine Dion
    7. The Raconteurs
    8. Enya
    9. Nelly Furtado
    10. ABBA

Q - What was the first song you ever heard by 6 ( Celine Dion)?

A - Who knows? I probably heard her first when I was just a kid. I'm guessing it was probably Think Twice or something like that.

Q - What is your favourite album of 2 (Snow Patrol)?

    A - Easily Eyes Open

Q - What is your favourite lyric that 5 (Dido) has sung?

A - Probably "There will be no white flag above my door, I'm in love and always will be"

Q - What is your favourite song by 7 (The Raconteurs)?

    A - Together

Q - What is a good memory you have involving the music of 10 (ABBA)?

A - Hee! It's not actually to do with ABBA themselves and more to do with the show ABBAMania having Steps sing Lay All Your Love On Me and I Know Him So Well. The latter being the best duet the Steps girls ever did.

Q - Is there a song of 3 (Coldplay) that makes you sad?

A - Indeedy Fix You pushed my emotional buttons for a while there.

Q - What is your favourite lyric that 4 (Moby)has sung?

A - Hmm... difficult with Moby because he has so many samples and guest vocalists and stuff. I suppose it would be "I love you and you're beautiful, You write your own songs".

Q - How did you get into 3 (Coldplay)?

A - I'm not really into them. I just think they're alright. I don't know when I started listening to them... just gradually I suppose over the years. There was no song I really obsessed over or anything.

Q - What was the first song you heard by 1 ( The Beatles)?

A - As if I would know. I was probably in the womb or something. I think the first song I ever really identified with them was Here Comes the Sun... so I'll go with that.

Just why were The Beatles so consistently brilliant?

1.Guess the artist and song by identifying the lyrics listed below.
2.Using Google for the answers is oh so lame.
3.All artists are in artist connections.

    5. You only see what your eyes want to see
    6. Out on the wiley, windy moors, we'd roll and fall in green

    8. When the visions around you bring tears to your eyes
    9. Guess there are times when we all need to share a little pain

    12. Spike heels and skin-tight jeans
    13. He's strutting into town like he's slinging a gun
    14. Big wheels keep on turning, carry me home to see my kin

    22. I cannot find a way to describe it
    23. Don't go changing to try to please me
    24. Thought I ran into you down on the street
    25. I call you up whenever things go wrong
    26. I used to change my accent, change my stance
    27. And I saw it coming, I saw emptiness and tragedy
    28. Crowds that scream at superstars
    29. You can make the sun turn purple
    30. I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad, I got sunshine in a bag
    31. Dirty old river, must you keep rolling
    32. No sign of life pulsing through these aging veins
    33. Once I needed your love but that was just one thing left on my mind
    34. Pray you don't lose your place
    35. Do you feel like a chain store? Practically floored.
    36. All my life is changing every day in every possible way
    37. We're gonna rock and roll rawhr rawhr
    38. You're all I want, all I need, you're all I've got, all I see
    39. You were the sweetest thing that I ever knew
    40. I wonder how you sleep, I wonder what you think of me
    41. I am colourblind, coffee-black and egg-white
    42. I read you, God I'm good at it, I'm so spot-on
    43. So you think you've got it all worked out
    44. Save some face, you know you've only got one
    45. Ladies and gentleman of the class of 97'
    46. All around me are familiar faces
    47. Something filled up my heart with nothing
    48. Strumming my pain with his fingers
    49. I love the tone that's in your laugh

  • More Gheyness From Me

    5. Jun. 2006, 14:17

Stolen from the tres adorable j-o-n!

    1. Take your top ten artists and get their 'gay rating'. If you look on the artist page and then click "Tags" you can see how many times they've been tagged gay:

Megan Mullally and Supreme Music Program = 1

    Matchbox Twenty = 0

    Enya = 0

    Moby = 0

    Alison Krauss & Union Station = 0

    Sarah McLachlan = 0

    Madonna = 12

    Kelly Clarkson = 0

    Will Young = 11

    The Arcade Fire = 0

    2. Add them all together and divide by 10 to get the average:

    2.4

    3. Then divide that by the average of the top ten 'gay' artists, which is: 371

    0.00647

    4. Multiply your result by 100 to get a percentage.

Apparently I'm 0.6% gay. Which is wrong. WRONG!!!!!!

I know for a fact I have the gheyest music taste this side of The Artist Formally Known As Prince .

I am shocked, appalled and offended... in that order.

    I listen to Alcazar damnit!
  • Mainstreamness

    21. Apr. 2006, 10:05

    Stolen from breakxmyxheart7

Find the number of listeners for each of your top 10 artists and add them up and divide by 10 to get the average.

    1. Megan Mullally and Supreme Music Program = 28 (lol)
    2. Matchbox Twenty = 58,704
    3. Enya = 80,253
    4. Moby = 164,516
    5. Alison Krauss & Union Station = 12,141
    6. Sarah McLachlan = 81,783
    7. Madonna = 151,414
    8. Kelly Clarkson = 67,767
    9. Arcade Fire = 125,420
    10. Pete Murray = 3,819

    Mainstreamness = 74584.5 or 31.9%

Wow, thats kind of disgusting. To be honest though I'm mainstream in a non-mainstream way. A lot of the artists I listen to are mainstream within this sort of context but not in the 'real world'. Who listens to Enya nowadays? :p

Also Moby has the most listeners out of everyone. Random or what.
  • Found and stole another survey. Yay... I mean Boooo

    1. A song that wakes you up in the morning:

A: Crystal Baller. I listened to this a lot when I first started university when I was tired from being awake all night.

    2. A song you loved in high school:

A: I can't even remember what I was into then, except for Steps of course. I know, I'll say Lucky I got quite obsessed with that for a short while.

    3. A song that mentions a dead celebrity:

A: I was gonna put David Letterman but then I remembered that he's still alive. Soo... oh I know Candle in the Wind. And I mean the Marilyn version none of that Princess Diana cash-in rubbish.

    4. A song you'd be embarrassed to listen to with your grandmother:

A: Oh the horror. I could say 'nothing' and be all liberal and cool... but the truth would be Flower

    5. A song that MTV will never play in a million, billion years:

A: Hall of the Mountain King. But wouldn't it be awesome if they did!?

    6. A song with a title that ends in y:

A: Hee! Random... Sunday (The Day Before My Birthday)

    7. A song that makes you crave something:

A: Little Fluffy Clouds totally makes me crave Arizona.

    8. A cover song that you think is better than the original:

    A: Toxic. I hate Britney's version.

    9. The original of #8:

    A: Toxic

    10. You have been caught mouthing the lyrics to this song:

A: Barbie Girl. My dodgy music taste is open knowledge though.

    11. A song that will always make you think of a movie:

    A: Pure Shores

    12. A song you wish they'd play in elevators:

A: Battlestar Muzaktica because if it's good enough for Colonial bathrooms...

    13. You'll stop listening to this song when they pry your MP3 player out of your cold, dead hands:

A: Never Tear Us Apart because *love*

    STOLEN

"Here you are given the chance to curate your own festival. It's easy right, just pick your 30 favorite bands and youre done. So here's your chance, give it a name, date, location(just a city), ticket prices, and most importantly band order. Taking it a stage further would be to add set lists as well."

    Name: MiscOMG*squee*

stolen (and then slightly modified) from last.fm user power_0ut

List your top ten last.fm artists of the week then list your favourite three songs by each. (I changed it to weekly because I'm sick of writing about my overall top ten, although by the time I've finished this I reckon I'll have a new chart.)

    Bear McCreary
    1. Roslin and Adama
    2. The Shape of Things to Come
    3. Wander My Friends

Why: Roslin and Adama because it's a total 'shipper song. Shape of Things because it's so beautiful and evocative and the opening teaser of 'Kobol's Last Gleaming (Part One)' is my favourite of the entire series of BSG and it would be nothing without that piece of music. Finally Wander My Friends because it's so uplifting and totally reminds me of the little Kara and Laura hug at the end of 'Hand of God'.

    Heather Nova
    1. When Somebody Turns You On
    2. Welcome
    3. Just Been Born

Why: Turns You On is a recent 'obsession' song and has been looped a lot, Welcome is just great and really happy, Just Been Born is interesting and has a slightly strange sound.

    Madonna
    1. Nothing Fails
    2. Like a Prayer
    3. Love Profusion

Why: Nothing Fails is amazing, the choir in the background and the words are just really powerful. Like a Prayer also has a choir and I just love the video and it's great, also I think it was the first Madonna song I ever heard. Love Profusion I just like for no real profound reason that I can think of.

Megan Mullally and Supreme Music Program
    1. Fancy
    2. Marie
    3. Guilty

Why: Fancy is my top track overall and hopefully will remain that way for a long time to come. I love it, I love the story behind it and I love the way Megan delivers it. Marie is just simple and beautiful. And Guilty is semi-depressing and has that great little drum intro. *love*

    Nickelback
    1. If Everyone Cared
    2. Where Do I Hide
    3. Should've Listened

Why: If Everyone Cared is another recent obsession but I really do like it and think it deserves the top Nickelback spot. Where Do I Hide is a classic and was my favourite Nickelback song for a few years. Should've Listened is one of those great 'men = fuck-ups' songs.

    Alison Krauss & Union Station
    1. Crazy Faith
    2. The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn
    3. Bright Sunny South

Why: Alison only has lead vocals on one of these tracks which is half-amusing. Anyway... Crazy Faith has really pretty lyrics, The Boy is a story song (which I love), Bright Sunny South just touches me and again has nice lyrics.

    Will Young
    1. All Time Love
    2. Over You
    3. Your Game (Acoustic Gospel Version)

Why: All Time Love is gorgeous and I love, love, love it. Over You is a little gem from his first album which I've always liked. Your Game is a brilliant song with a great video but the gospel version just rocks, what can I say... I love choirs.

    Dido
    1. White Flag
    2. Isobel
    3. My Life

Why: White Flag is beyond great, I just love the sentiment behind it (well I used to maybe not so much now it's more no.1 out of nostalgia than anything else). Isobel was a song I used to have on the mix tape I listened to when I used to go on walks around the neighbourhood when I still lived at home. I like My Life because I love the opening line; 'What I choose to do... is of no concern to you... and your friends'. Resonates. ;)

    David Essex
    1. Oh What A Circus
    2. Africa You Shine
    3. If I Could

Why: That was hard, I could pick any three of about eight songs of his that I love in a sillily obsessive fashion. I picked Circus because it's just so fun and also true and it doesn't really reveal it's meaning until around halfway through, just LOVE it. Africa is a love song to a country and that is a great concept if nothing else and it just radiates joy. If I Could is simple and perfect and oh so pretty and it just sounds like it was made up while wandering home from work at night or something equally banal.

    Supertramp

    1. Goodbye Stranger
    2. Breakfast In America
    3. Give a Little Bit

Why: Goodbye Stranger is fun and catchy and I just like it. Breakfast has some great lines. Give a Little Bit is lovely and I listened to it a lot last summer whilst sitting on my windowsill.

Before I do this I'm just gonna say I'm pretty sure all the answers will be nonsense and oh-so-unentertaining... but whatever.

Comments: Oh, so I'm currently dead then.

    Song: Working Against Me
    Comments: Erm... more friction then?

    Will I ever have children?

Song: 7 Seconds (Feat. Youssou n Dour)

    How will I be remembered?

    Song: Heart Without a Home
Comments: Well no wonder I die unhappy...
