01. Montenegro: Rambo AmadeusEuro Neuro
Eurovision is off to a bad start this year. If the viewer ratings of this semifinal are low, blame it on Montenegro. I can imagine you will turn off the tv when this is the first song you hear. And calling it a ‘song’ is even a compliment. Awful.

Rating: 1/10
Prediction: Not qualifying (in a million years)
Result: Not qualifying

02. Iceland: Gréta Salóme & JonsiNever Forget
For all the people that did hold on and watched through Montenegro’s performance, waits a pleasant surprise. Iceland is up and they actually have a very good song. It’s a passionate duet with a great mysterious atmosphere. I love the percussion and strings in it. They add to the power and impact of the song. The vocal performance wasn’t perfect. Jonsi could’ve done a bit better, but together they sound great. Definitely one of the best songs of the night.

Rating: 8/10
Prediction: Definitely qualifying
Result: Qualifier

03. Greece: Eleftheria EleftheriouAphrodisiac
Greece sends a bit of a low budget song to the contest this year. It’s not bad, but it’s a bit simple. It’s ethnic pop and we heard dozens of better songs in the same genre. Still the chorus is kind of infectious. Eleftheria is a beautiful girl. I wish I could say the same about her voice, which is a bit thin. The choreography is alright, nothing special actually.

Rating: 7-
Prediction: Qualifier
Result: Qualifier

04. Latvia: AnmaryBeautiful Song
When I heard and saw this for the first time I was like: ‘what the hell!?’. That is usually not a good sign for Eurovision where most voters hear the songs only once. After listening to it more I began to appreciate it, but the performance wasn’t good. Her vocals are quite good, but the stage was a mess with women walking around and doing silly choreography. Too bad.

Rating: 6,5
Prediction: Not qualifying
Result: Not qualifying

05. Albania: Rona NishliuSuus
This song and performance is very ‘love it or hate it’. The long notes in the second half will definitely not be everybody’s cup of tea, but I have to say it’s impressive to hear what she can do with her voice. I was blown away by her live performance. She hit all the notes perfectly which is very difficult. It’s not a song with a standard verse/chorus structure, but the build up in ‘Suus’ works.

Rating: 7,5
Prediction: Qualifier
Result: Qualifier

06. Romania: MandingaZaleilah
Now it’s time for a happy song after the heavy performance of Albania. ‘Zaleilah’ sounds like summer and mixes some popular music styles that do well in the European charts nowadays. The Romanian girl looks great and sounds good on stage, although she seemed to have a technical problem during the performance. I knew for sure Romania would qualify.

Rating: 8
Prediction: Qualifier, without a doubt
Result: Qualifier

07. Switzerland: SinplusUnbreakable
Switzerland sends a rockband this year. The singer of Sinplus is one of the best vocalists in the first semi final. Their song is catchy and it comes across well on screen. The only bad thing about this performance is his bad pronunciation of the English lyrics. They deserved a place in the final.

Rating: 7
Prediction: Qualifier
Result: Not qualifying

08. Belgium: IrisWould You
Belgium is represented by the young singer Iris. She sings a ballad called ‘Would You’. Although the song is not bad, it fails to make any impression. It misses personality. Her voice is quite good, although you can hear she is nervous during her performance. If she gets to work with better songs, she might be a popular singer in Belgium in a few years.

Rating: 7-
Prediction: Not qualifying
Result: Not qualifying

09: Finland – PernillaNär jag blundar
It seems like I’m one of the few people that really enjoys this song. It’s not something that makes very much impact at first listen, but it gets beautiful after a few times. Pernilla is a talented singer and I like the fact, she did not change her song to English. Too bad this won’t stand a chance, because ‘När Jag Blundar’ is one of the better songs in this semi final.

Rating: 7+
Prediction: Not qualifying
Result: Not qualifying

10. Israel – IzaboTime
Seems like we went back to the seventies with Israel’s entry this year. Izabo performs their song ‘Time’ very enthusiastic, but it fails to impress me in any way. I added them to my top 10 prediction last minute, because of the failing vocals of another country, that we’ll talk about later. I won’t miss them when watching the final, at all.

Rating: 5/10
Prediction: Qualifier (10th place)
Result: Not qualifying

11. San Marino – Valentina MonettaThe Social Network Song
Now seriously, what is this? How could someone possibly think they would reach the final with a song like this? It’s beyond me that a country sends this to represent themselves. The song is crap and the performance is laughable. I don’t want to be rude, but I just don’t know anything positive to say about this.

Rating: 2/10
Prediction: Definitely not qualifying
Result: Not qualifying

12. Cyprus: Ivi AdamouLa La Love
Now this was the official disappointment of the evening. I like the song a lot. It’s very summerish and catchy. But what was wrong with her voice? She sounded completely different from the studio version. Live she sang the whole song out of tune. The act looks great, Ivi is very beautiful (love her make-up) but her complete lack of vocal skills in the semi final were awful. I thought she wouldn’t pass because of that. Based on the song she deserved a place in the final though.

Rating: 5,5/10
Prediction: Not qualifying (because of live vocals)
Result: Qualifier

13. Denmark : Soluna SamayShould've Known Better
Best song and performance of the night for me. After Cyprus this is a breath of fresh air. Soluna sings her song very well. ‘Should’ve Known Better’ has got a strong melody that stays in your head. She looks cute and the performance as a whole works. I don’t know if she will end up top 10 in the final, but I think she is one of the best of this year.

Rating: 8.5/10
Prediction: Qualifier
Result: Qualifier

14. Russia – Buranovskiye BabushkiParty for everybody
I don’t even wanna spend words on this. I get it, they are old, they have no teeth. Very, very adorable… Now can we move on to actual songs and music? Thank you.

Rating: 2/10
Prediction: Qualifier
Result: Qualifier

15. Hungary – Compact DiscoSound of Our Hearts
Hungary brings a modern popsong to the contest with some dubstep influences. It’s not one of my favorites of the night but it’s a decent song. It’s too bad the lead singer is not one of the best in the contest, but overall it’s a quite nice performance. I didn’t think they would reach the final, but good for them! Don’t think they will make any impression in the final though.

Rating: 6,5/10
Prediction: Not qualifying
Result: Qualifier

16. Austria – TrackshittazWoko Mit Deim Popo
And yet another freaky act that has nothing to do with an actual good song. Nice poledancers though. Glad they didn’t qualify.

Rating: 3/10
Prediction: Not qualifying
Result: Not qualifying

17. Moldova – Pasha ParfenyLautar
Now this is a good performance. Pasha is a good singer and the dancers work really well with the song. I seriously love their weird dresses and dancing. The song is very catchy and infectious. More than deserved qualifier. With the 26th spot in the final I think they can finish in top 10.

Rating: 8/10
Prediction: Qualifier
Result: Qualifier

18. Ireland – JedwardWaterline
The twins are back. Last year I didn’t really like them before the contest, but I had to admit their performance was quite good. They did a good performance again this year, although I liked ‘Lipstick’ better than ‘Waterline’. They use the backing vocals very well to cover up the fact that John and Edward aren’t the best singers. Deserved qualifiers though.

Rating: 6,5/10
Prediction: Qualifier
Result: Qualifier

Overall this semi final wasn't very good to be honest. I mostly agreed with the results and predicted 8 out of 10 finalists.
