As always, December 31 is a good day to list my favorite records of the year. I think musically 2008 was a nice year. Maybe not spectacular, but I've added quite a few records to my collections.

Of course, I haven't heard everything that was released this year, but so far, these 10 are my favorite:

1. Asking for flowers - Kathleen Edwards
2. Me and Armini - Emiliana Torrini
3, Life death love and freedom - John Mellencamp
4. ’78 - China Forbes
5. 2 - Fotheringay
6. Live at Montreux - Tori Amos
7. We sing, we dance, we steal things - Jason Mraz
8. Two - kathryn williams & neil maccoll
9. A book like this - Angus & Julia Stone
10. Saturday nights & Sunday mornings - Counting Crows

Just outside the top 10 are Jude, Headless Heroes, Marah, John Mayer, Jakob Dylan, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Levellers and Shearwater.

For me, however, 2008 was not only a year of new music, but just as much a year of (re)discovering older music. Therefore, here's an alternative list with my '10 favorite records of 2008'...

Born to run - Bruce Springsteen
Asking for flowers - Kathleen Edwards
’78 - China Forbes
The weight is a gift - Nada Surf
Daybreaker - Beth Orton
Darkness on the edge of town - Bruce Springsteen
Life death love and freedom - John Mellencamp
Me and Armini - Emiliana Torrini
Tunnel of love - Bruce Springsteen
Subtitulo - Josh Rouse

Here's also a list with 10 songs that could form my personal soundtrack for 2008:

Thunder Road
Sure As Shit
Moon River
Here at the Right Time
The Beauty Of The Rain
I'll Be Your Mirror
Meeting Across the River
Inside of Love
Big Jumps

And, finally, here's a list with my favorite concerts of last year:

1. Bruce Springsteen – June 18, Amsterdam
2. Kathleen Edwards – June 20, Amsterdam
3. Emiliana Torrini – October 16, Utrecht
4. Jason Mraz – July 9, Amsterdam
5. Nada Surf – May 7, Utrecht
6. Josh Ritter – March 21, Utrecht
7. My Morning Jacket – July 9, Amsterdam
8. Emmylou Harris – September 26, Groningen
9. Holly Golightly – April 19, Utrecht
10. Alela Diane – April 12, Utrecht

Best wishes everyone for 2009!

I've forgotten all about the new Counting Crows album, as well as the latest R.E.M. album, even though I was looking forward to them when they were released :O There was just too much good stuff last year I guess.

And I completely forgot about the new Travis! That one might replace the Counting Crows in my top 10. ;-)
