There was a scary article on Fact Magazine a few days ago asking if Ghost Box was heading for the mainstream based on the fact that Jim Jupp aka Belbury Poly was chatting and playing exclusive Ghost Box material on BBC Radio 1 and the new album has gotten rave reviews from Guardian (at the expense of getting their names written as Bellbury)

#22 is one of my self-acclaimed best shows. It’s one of the two shows where I’ve tried to mix songs in such a way to create a seamless show with the use of soundscapes and interludes. I also tried key mixing and I think it works to create the cinematic effect I desired but that made it more demanding and darker than the other shows. #20 features, a lot of leftfield hiphop from UK’s Dirty Diggers, J. Rawls & Holmskillit, Kidkanevil even some neo-oldschool stuff by Jazzy Jeff. Some crazy stuff from Peru and Japan, particularly the awesome instrumental version of Otemoyan by Teruo Yoda and the japanese dub track by Accidental’s Setsubun Bean Unit. Interlude’s are from The Focus Group’s new album “We are all Pan’s People” and the closing oriental dub piece is off Fedayi Pacha’s new one “The 99 Names of Dub“.

It’s a journey from electronic to mechanic to african & brasil jazz and ends with ethnic music from Balkans and Turkey. There’s some funny overdubs by grindcore heads Gut, I can’t play grindcore on the show but no one gets hurt with some samples. I also love “My beer” by David Shrigley, which was also the creator for the interludes of our first shows.

Our 18th show, is the first where we have a pseudo back2back vibe going with our dnb/stephead friend golem. He’s chosen some tracks and gave them to me in order and I’ve played some tracks in between and right on top!. It’s experimental for sure, but given that dubstep is minimalistic in essence, most of the stuff I’ve played on top seemed to go down smooth. We really need your comments for this one be it positive or negative so we can determine if it’s worked or not! Enjoy.
