Barring a few possibly interesting releases, 2008 is about wrapped up. Most of what gets put out at Christmas time are reissues, remixes, greatest hits, and box sets. So have you been working on a year-end "best of" list? I've got to say, this year's for me is harder than years past that I can remember. Whether that's because I've been paying more attention, or there was just more music that I liked, it's hard to say. All I know is that it's going to have to be a two disc set.

Here's what I've got so far.

    Disc 1

    Parts & Labor "Satellites"
R.E.M. "Living Well's the Best Revenge"
    Scarlett Johansson "Falling Down"
Wolf Parade "Call it a Ritual"
Drive-By Truckers "The Man I Shot"
    Calexico "Victor Jara's Hands"
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds "Dig, Lazarus! Dig!
    Fleet Foxes "White Winter Hymnal"
Eagles Of Death Metal "Wannabe in L.A."
    Los Campesinos! "You! Me! Dancing!"
    Constantines "Trans Canada"
    Sigur Ros "Gobbledigook"
Tilly and the Wall "Pot Kettle Black"
    MGMT "Time to Pretend"
    Alejandro Escovedo "Sister Lost Soul"
    Shearwater "Rooks"
    Santogold "You'll Find a Way"
    Jenny Lewis "Acid Tongue"

    Disc 2

    The Subways "Shake! Shake!"
    Land Of Talk "It's Okay"
Neon Neon "I Told Her on Alderaan"
    The Hold Steady "Yeah Sapphire"
    Fucked Up "Son the Father"
    The Felice Brothers "Frankie's Gun!"
    Frightened Rabbit "I Feel Better"
    Elbow "Grounds for Divorce"
    Portishead "Machine Gun"
    Vampire Weekend "Oxford Comma"
Vivian Girls "Where Will You Run To?"
    The Ting Tings "Great DJ"
David Byrne & Brian Eno "Strange Overtones"
    The Teenagers "Starlett Johannson"
    Supergrass "Bad Blood"
The Raconteurs "Consoler of the Lonely"
    Duffy "Rockferry"
    Deerhunter "Nothing Ever Happened"
    Mount Eerie "Voice in Headphones"

And that's not to mention The Gaslight Anthem, Crystal Stilts, Love is All, Little Joy, Bound Stems, and Religious Knives, most of whom also deserve a place in there.

Notably left off: Bauhaus, Black Mountain, Beck, Foals, Gutter Twins, Hot Chip, No Age, the Sea and Cake, Walkmen, Wire. Most of these were albums I liked or even loved but I "didn't hear a single".

Biggest disappointments: Albert Hammond, Jr., Black Kids, Breeders, Clinic, and, saddest of all, TV on the Radio (I don't know why, it's just not for me)
