Czw 10 VII – Colours of Ostrava 2008
Very good place, but...quite bad program: too much pop! And it should be called the biggest INDEPENDENT music festival in East Europe?! Lot of groups was simply too boring for an independent music festival - just main stream. By the way, in Tchech Republic are so many good indie groups! But they was'nt invited there... "Chill out-tent" was a really catastrophe: typical small-town disco without any place to chill out. Nowhere was a good music to dance!
But all this with some extraordinary exceptions: fantastic on concert were: Irfan, Inga Liljeström (what a pitty: any CD to buy...), Iva Bittova, A Filetta, Dandy Warhols;
very interesting: Koop, Tim Eriksen, BBP.
Practically all "Tent"-scene (Indies) presentations was new, fresh, openminded...really good, and some of "Marley"-scene too: young, new people with hopefully, interesting musical ideas. One of this groups, with very good indie-dance potential and with perfect contact to the public was: Karimski Klub! I' ve herd this group for the first time and I can just say: I love it. But I think it's better to hear their music on concert, than I'm sure, that without public nobody can spend so much energy...
In my opinion all events of the festival was quite bad planed: Gogol Bordello and Garbarek - the most interesting presentations and tops of the festival - exactly at the time, in which many visitors from other cities or from abroad can't take part (thursday afternoon and sunday night).
A perfect idea was to connect the film and theater presentations with the music festival. But why MOFFOM - the film&caffe was opened only till 18.00...?? Really it would be better to sit down in the caffee-store or see some films instead to try to find something interesting in the quite empty city, when the concerts was so so...
And the best director of the event was the Good in person, who made a storm: it was the best dramatically leaded performance in Ostrava this year! You could'nt never forget such a theater...;-) I was lucky to sleep in the hotel, not in a tent...
