19-26 of August. Badly Drawn Boy is still the king!

26. Aug. 2007, 21:07

Over 1800 tracks scrobbled this week. That's about 120 hours of music, great music. I've stopped looking for new artists on Tuesday and ended up with Andrew Bird, Beck, Modest Mouse, The White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Arctic Monkyes, Under the Influence of Giants and of course Badly Drawn Boy still being the king of my top artists list.

As for my new discoveries... Andrew Bird and his newest album Armchair Apocrypha, especially the second track: Imitosis is absolutely brilliant. I've listened to some of his previous albums, but Armchair Apocrypha is in my opinion best of them all. By the way, does anyone know his Skin? I swear I've heard that somewhere. Soundtrack? Perhaps in TV ad? Any ideas?

But my best discovery of the week are the guys from Under The Influence of Giants. Their whole album is available for download from last.fm. I especially recommend Lay Me Down. I didn't find video for this track, but there's one for Mama's Room on youtube.com, check it out:

The band was formed in 2000, but their first album was released in 2006. It was number one hit on the Top Hearseekers chart. And their Mama's Room single was a minor hit on US Modern Rock radio. And just to remind you, you can get it from last.fm for free.

My biggest dissapointment this week were The White Stripes. I was expecting something different. I've listened to their discography, and found nothing special. This was actually the first time last.fm recommended a band, that I didn't like. I won't be looking for new bands this week for lack of time. I've got exams in two weeks and i really need to start studying. So, no summary next week.
