I'm glad to see anyone get into power metal! I keep lists for every year for the past couple of years, and I'm also pretty well versed in older albums as well. If you have any questions or are looking for recommendations beyond this year, feel free to ask.

Manticora is pretty unconventional for power metal, start with 8 Deadly Sins. They're rather dark, thrashy, and progressive.

I agree: I heard he's going to be releasing some other albums soon. I really hope he makes something obscure, like he used to. I'm hoping for a full ambient album, or perhaps some experimentation. But as long as he's releasing music, I don't think I'll be disappointed.

Haha yeah Buckethead's discography is quite large. Colma and Electric Tears are amazing chill albums to listen to late. Population Override is really good, fairly mellow rock/jam. Enter the Chicken is heavier and has some good guest vocalists. Other good heavy riffage albums: Cuckoo Clocks of Hell, The Elephant Man's Alarm Clock, Monsters & Robots.

Thanks! I'm personally enjoying a few tracks, but not really the whole album yet. The quality tends to vary quite a bit, in my experience. Never could get into XMAS_EVET, despite how many people enjoy it. But I see the appeal. Aisatsana is really nice though, I expect to listen to Syro a lot more in the future.

I loved their new album. I just wish it wasn't their last.

I will dude asap, I'm just in a bit of a doom/psychadelic/sludge type of thing at the moment. I'm actually a fan of Horna, Beherit and Archgoat. I'll definetly have some good BM records to listen to!

Awesome man I'll have to check it out, from the limited time that I heard from CB, it doesn't sound like any other Black Metal I've heard before...or maybe I've not heard enough Finnish BM (I still have Sargeist to listen to) so it will be on my list of things to do.

I've never bought a Hip-hop album but Trap Lord may be the first, and Nate Black showed me Walknut a few months ago and I completely forgot they existed until you brought them back up.

Also, the musicianship on all the recordings I mentioned above are good. I give the piece a little more leeway in interpretation because it's supposed to capture the strained and untrained voices of villagers and I don't think it should be completely tamed or controlled. That's just me though. Happy listening, my friend! There are several good recordings on youtube too. Tilson Thomas isn't my favorite, but he has two sets on youtube on the Rite- one called "Keeping Score" which outlines the music, and one that is a video of a performance of it. Check those out first! You can see which groups are playing or whatever. Dat snooty looking oboe player.

Thank you a lot, dude! Well, I think that the recording depends on what kind of "Rite" experience you're looking for. I know that sounds kinda weird or maybe elitist, but it does make a difference. The 1958 NYPO recording with Bernstein and the 1951/1959 recordings by Markevitch are considered "classics", and for good reason- they are highly recommended. My personal favorite is Ozawa's recording with the Chicago Symphony, overall, very good balance, and it has the right amount of savagery. Dorati's with Detroit y is one of the fastest throughout- clocking in at 29 minutes (average is about 33 minutes), and Slatkin's with the Saint Louis is one of the slowest at 35. The difference is seen in the Sacrificial Dance. Dorati's blazes through and is intense. Another slower Rite, Gergiev's (which is slower than Slatkin at that point, but faster in the overall piece), seems like it goes at a snail's pace comparatively, but it has a bit more ... 'sauciness'.

http://www.last.fm/music/Spindrift Holy motherfucking shit, listen to these guys right fucking now. This is honestly the best contemporary Western I have ever listened to and I'm only partway through The Legend of God's Gun and have teared up 3 times. This shit is ridiculously powerful.
