making this so that i can look back on it in the future to see the music that defined my year.

i spent the tail end of 2012 listening to a lot of eai and going through a large chunk of the erstwhile discography in chronological order. i eventually fell in love with the entire scene and spent most of 2013 listening to eai and pop music, as well as a good amount of hip hop, techno, and house.

each year, i also try to keep up with the christian worship scene and per usual, I didn't find many albums I liked a whole lot. despite liking hillsong less and less each year, i ended up absolutely loving the song oceans (where feet may fall) -- though less so the recording and just hearing it in the context of a worship setting. i've also become a bit tired of most music from IHOP-KC, Jesus Culture, and Bethel, which was kind of a huge bummer. However, there were two that I listened to quite a lot and those were:

Jonathan David Helser & Melissa Helser's Endless Ocean / Bottomless Sea
Jon Thurlow - Stand In Awe

There was this one song called Freight Train that was also played a ton at the youth retreat I helped out at and that kind of defined the whole thing so I should probably mention that. It's never been recorded and it's a song that my friend Johnny learned from YWAM. Whenever I wanted to listen to worship music this past year I stuck with my usual favorites (namely United Pursuit's Live at the Banks House and a few Enter The Worship Circle albums) and it's kind of nice being comfortable with a handful of releases (something I thought would never happen).
  • Top Albums of 2010

    20. Jan. 2011, 2:00

I had a short ~150 word review/blurb for about half the albums on this list. Unfortunately, my power went out and Microsoft Word didn't auto-recover my document for some odd reason. I'm not motivated enough to write all those again so instead, I wrote a simple list. 2011 albums have been leaking and releasing so I feel like it's reasonable to hurry up and get this list done quickly. I guess I'll have to wait until 2011 for an extensively written end of the year list.

2010 was the first year I tried to listen to a lot of music - I officially moved out of my absolutepunk.net phase in the fall of 2009. However, 2010 was also a tricky year in music because no album truly stuck with me for a long time. Therefore, there is no ranking system in this list. This list is in order of release date. Listing the albums in order of release date helps me remember when i listened to the album and also helps me associate those albums with memories/events around that time.

Top 50 Albums of 2010 (in order of release date):

I'm a christian and I like to keep up with the christian praise and worship 'scene.' I don't really keep up with 'christian rock' or bands like that have some sort of christian-____ tag. (mainly because 95% are awful). Worship albums usually suck and I'm really proud to have found 10 albums that i really enjoyed this year. These albums are listed in order, with 1 being my favorite:
