More to try and remember myself than for anyone to read, I'm going to write a bit about what I did and saw at [event=]Supersonic 2010[/event].
Got down early, had a couple of real ales in the Anchor to try and avoid the crowds. There was nobody I specifically wanted to see on the Friday but a few acts I was curious about.
First up for me were Gum Takes Tooth on the main stage whose name I'd seen about but who I hadn't heard. Great set-up of live drums and trigger pads, feeding into another guy's synth and pedals rig - heavy bulbous bass and some tight rhythms. Not sure the sound did them justitce though.
Headed over to see Demons with Sick Llama having heard a member of Wolf Eyes was involved - lovely abstract drone at a suitably loud amplitude saw me raving to polyrhythmic pulses and squeals.
I was dragged from my trance to watch Fukpig which was a total contrast, harsh death metal and not what I was in the mood for.
Headed back in for Devilman, another DJ Scotch Egg side project (though that didn't click til after their gig) - rather enjoyable. People didn't know whether to dance or form a pit to the heavy dubstep with stabby metal bass guitar; excellent monosynth scream breakdowns; and some shifty characters loitering toweards the back of the stage - one in business suit and aviators sat in an armchair, another sporadically weilding a massive sword.
Drumcorps failed to impress back on the main stage, wasn't expecting much from what I'd heard and the site of one chap on stage with guitar and laptop, thrusting metal stance and chorus pedal confirmed. To paraphrase a friend, like the first thing you write the first time you have a go on Fruity Loops; a little harsh maybe but I couldn't help agreeing. Missed PCM for a cig break and headed into the main stage for many people's highlight Napalm Death. Not really my cup of tea but good to see them enjoying it - crowd going mental despite it not seeming particularly loud to me.
Dead Fader were really the highlight of the day for me; a great finish to a packed evening - massive lo-fi bass synth meat; dubstep tempos with a driving undercurrent; sometimes felt like a heavier, more chaotic Modeselektor - definately someone I'll be listening out for....
More soon maybe if i am bored enough tomorrow.
