Due to the wonders of modern technology (I have a Mac Mini hooked up to my TV, an Apple wireless keyboard & mouse and a fairly decent separates sound system) last night my poker playing guests had full access to last.fm which everyone thought was great fun. Two of my friends were already last.fm users but the others weren't. It was truly refreshing to listen to other peoples musical preference with the ease that last.fm offers.

For the 1st time I saw the true potential of last.fm. In the future will download charts be a thing of the past and 'listening' charts become it's replacement? I agreed with Steve Job a couple of years ago that people want to own their music (http://tinyurl.com/66yxys) but with the accessibility of subscription services like last.fm I'm starting to think different. If I can access last.fm from my iPhone over 3G or wifi and from any computer with an internet connection, why do I need to own a music library?
