    Bonjour Genève, we have some news in group Musicology, feel free to drop by again. In the meantime I did some research + found out CookieStroke from Japan is your musical neighbour (see his neighbours list, you are there at position 23). For more info see this thread and would be great if you could spare some time and share your thoughts (e.g. what do you think after listening to that user's library?)! Thank you, Erkan

    Hello genevegil, I see we have high compability. I wonder if you could please translate the lyrics of "Romaria" sung by Elis Regina, my favourite singer. I would appreciate it a lot. I hear in her singing there are a lot of feelings in this song.

Über mich

Genève’s Bio: Influences and Collaborations

In the ethnomusicology department at Wesleyan University, Genève studied:

* South Indian classical Carnatic vocals with T. Viswanathan,
* Ghanaian Dance with Freeman Kwadzo Donkor,
* Haitian Drumming with David Yih,
* Brazilian, jazz, and folk guitar with Matthew Allen, and
* jazz improvisation (on voice) with Bill Lowe.

She also collaborated with, among others:

* Sonya Cohen of Last Forever;
* Dan Newman of ZAMAN 8 and Global Phatness,
* Matthew Allen and Julie Searles,
* Scott Kessel of Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem,
* Jessica Lurie,
and many other remarkable artists.

She has lived and traveled in Cuba, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Mexico and the US, singing bossa nova, MPB, samba, nueva trova, jazz, folk and original music.

In Rome, she spent two blissful years playing and singing with Brazilian musician Luiz Lima of Br4tet and Laboratorio Stone Flower.

Rome and Brazil also introduced her to the incomparable Jaques and Paula Morelenbaum, and extraordinary musician friends of theirs, who expanded her world existentially.

In Boston, Genève studied capoeira, and sang in a samba band with David Rumpler, who now plays with Receita de Samba and writes for Global Rhythm magazine.

Her voice teacher in Boston was lyrical Spanish singer Olga Roman.

She also took courses in Osteophonie at the Longy School of Music.

In graduate school at UT Austin, she studied Brazilian music with Ethnomusicologist Gerard Behague, and sang with the Brazilian Samba Ensemble, rockingly lead by Karen Hoffman Blizzard of The Purple Martins.

Genève studies with Seth Riggs Speech Level Singing Instructor Gene Raymond.

She is writing music and performing with Austin artists, and seeking new partners in creation.

Early Years

In high school, Genève was graced with the oddball (and primordially fun) fortune of falling in with Stephin Merritt and Claudia Gonson of the Magnetic Fields, at the outset of their enduring artistic partnership.

She also learned how to compose species counterpoint, sight sing in ancient modes, and play classical piano.
