I pretty much agree with what you are saying: as bands grow in popularity, their aim is to remain as popular by any means necessary. I guess from a cultural context, people outside of Europe would consider these symphonic and gothic metal bands as underground so it's more shocking to us that they would change so much, but from what I hear, they're more mainstream than underground (but correct me if I'm wrong) so of course they're going to do the same as most other mainstream bands do.

Though when you let's say play Planescape in English you gain some... knowledge of obscure things, haha!
