If I feel physically as if the
top of my head were taken off...
I know that is music.
"When not preoccupied with our selves, we actually have a chance to expand the concept of who we are."
-Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.
what I can
what I have
Now I'm ready to close my eyes.
And now I'm ready to close my mind.
And now I'm ready to feel your hand
And lose my heart on the burning sands.
And now I wanna be your dog.
You can hypnotize me later
And we'll sail into the heavens
And our love will be the leaven
As we dance among the craters
But if I should leave this state
Well, there's nothing you can do
My dear you cannot soothe
This old heartache
Anyone who ever had a dream
Anyone who's ever played a part
Anyone who's gonna live lonely
Anyone who's ever stood apart
-The Velvet Underground
But wild beasts shall rest there, and their houses shall be filled with serpents, and ostriches shall dwell there, and the hairy ones shall dance there. And owls shall answer one another there, in the houses thereof, and sirens in the temples of pleasure.
-Peter Handke, Lied Vom Kindsein, Wings of Desire
Remember me, is all I ask.
And if remembered be a task,
Mary. A simple word.
Are you there in the cold country?
Your eyes so full. Your head so tight.
Can't you hear me?
Remember our talk, that day on the phone?
I said I was the door and you were the station.
With shattered glass and miles between us
We still flew away in a conversation.
I have no idea what kind of trends are going on with what people are listening to and could care less. I am concerned with my own taste and what sounds good and not what any institution has to say, unless it’s guiding me to new information. It seems that very few people appreciate the beauty of the cross-referencing built into music and elsewhere. Once you can tap into it genres literally disappear and it no longer becomes necessary to define anything.
-Steve Hauschildt (Emeralds)
When I conjure memories,
They feel like someone else's.
Mere unconscious currency
I adhere to my reflections
-Crystal Stilts, Prismatic Room
Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were his eyes:
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange.
-William Shakespeare, The Tempest
