i used to listen the hell out of Nirvana but petered out after Cobain's death, with all the hype and so .. sortof rediscovered them this weekend, and now there's all this interesting stuff to read while you're listening. man, kids have got it good today.

according to the wikipedia page , Steve Albini had not much respect for them after nevermind, but was talked into producing their next, and last, one. That wouldnt have meant much to me at the time, but having listened to a lot of shellac and breadwinner and table and Helmet in the meantime (heh.) and countless legions of Albini-influenced shards via Built on a weak spot – props, props to Jonathan – in the intervening decades, that carries some weight with me now.

So i have listened and thunk and this is my conclusion: Albini was wrong, Nevermind remains a better album than in utero. Useless trivia side note: both in utero and Breadwinner's Albini-produced the Burner contain a track called Tourette's.

Anyway, i always thought the whole grunge label thing was basically unfounded, but listening to on a plain, you can definitely hear the connection to pearl jam and soundgarden .. and vintage Aerosmith!
