Rules were accepted
People were clean and didn..t smell bad
The weather was nice the whole time
And it wasn..t too crowded
But hell yeah, I fucking loved it! Seriously, these were the best 3 days as far in this summer for me. The whole atmosphere, everybody enjoying it, the truckloads of beer and nice bands - come on, you don..t think there are better ways to spend you time, do ya?
So here..s my ranking of the bands, fans and the whole thing:
First day started with Lostprophets, which were pretty nice, aside from the white, tight and amazingly gay jeans of the front guy. Since when did they turn into a emo band!? At least the played "Shinobi vs Dragon Ninja", which brought the first taste of a moshing in the circle pit. Not bad, dudes, just get rid of this stupid jeans.
Filter played an overall good show, I liked that they did a lot of songs from soundtracks.
Kid rock was lame. Really lame.
Jimmy Eat World rocked like always, first stage diving in front of Alternative Stage.
36 crazyfists - the guys from Alaska kicked ass. The frontman requested circle pits the whole time ("You guys are a fucking A!") and was enjoying himself, all the nice songs were played. Thought this would be the best pogo…but as you..ll see later I was wrong.
Then everybody went to see the german legends Die Toten Hosen, which was fine by me, since I stayed to see Oomph. And awesome they were! The singer came out in a straight jacket, all other members in priests outfit. He spoke a lot to the crowd, about religion, fashism, about beeing around since ..89 and so on. Really energetic, really nice guys. The highlight of day one!
In day two we had an evil plan how to get in the mosh pit area in front of Center Stage for RATM. We stayed in line for about an hour, until this annoying german hip hop band was onstage and then when all the little girls and sissy boys went out of there, guess who got in…Exactly on time for the performance of Serj Tankian, another highlight of the festival. Since he got only one album, we got to hear all his songs, performed perfect and very artistic. He also talked about the elections in the States and the country not being "ruled by a fucking asshole like Bush" anymore.
Then we had to get along with Incubus for a while…As you can see I was very happy and enthusiastic to see them:
And then…then it was time to get the fuck up and rock! One of the best concerts I..ve attended, if not the best…"Good Evening, we're Rage Against The Machine from Los Angeles, California"! And from the first note hell broke loose at the Center Stage. Always wanted to go to a concert, where the crowd, and I mean everybody, responds to the music and the band. This happened there and it wouldn..t stop until the end of the concert. I..ll quote the frontman of the Streets on this:
"I have to say after all the indignation I felt yesterday afternoon, I thought it would tarnish my experience but Rage were absolutely amazing. We were all completely awe-struck. And this is me and the band and a load of roadies who've been doing festivals all their lives. There was no mosh pit. The whole crowd WAS the mosh pit. Sixty thousand people. I've never seen anything like it. You need to see Rage when they play Reading and Leeds if you can. I mean it. They are the greatest rock band in the world. That's not my opinion. It is a fact."
Bulls On Parade
People Of The Sun
Know Your Enemy
Bullet In The Head
Renegades Of Funk
War Within A Breath
Calm Like A Bomb
Sleep Now In The Fire
Killing In The Name
After the last "Fuck you, I won..t do what you tell me…Motherfucker!!!" there was just silence and melancholy that such an amazing experience has to end…but also the euphoria, that you..ve been there in such a fantastic moment, that you..ve lived through a night you won..t forget easily. The RATM show had only one minus - after it, there wans..t a thing that could impress me till the end of the festival. And there was still one more day to go. (Don..t need to say, that we weren..t in the mood for The Prodigy that night)
Disturbed - boring
Standing in line for the mosh pit area - exhausting and without results.
Giving up and going to see Stereophonics - ok.
The Offspring - fat and ugly, no voice abilities, no stage presence. Boring.
Metallica. Well what should I say about them. Great performance, nice effects, they were really professional and had fun as well. Big screens and stuff. One guy in front of us was so excited that coudn..t wait until "Nothing else matters" and proposed to his girlfriend during "Master of the puppets". He was happy and we made some noise for them ;) Then after 10 min he was again happy and we made some more noise for them. Metallica played a lot of classics meanwhile, "Die die my darling" was a nice surprise and they ended their set with "Seek and destroy".
So this is it my friends, 3 days of rock, mud, rain and sun, 3 happy days of jumping, shouting, moshing and getting the last energy out of our bodies. And yeah - I would do it again and again and again!
