  • Dr Rubberfunk - Hot Stone - the new album, coming soon!

    6. Sep. 2009, 17:52

So, I'm very happy to announce that the new Dr Rubberfunk album - 'Hot Stone' - is ready, and will be out on Jalapeno Records this Autumn. It'll be released on vinyl too - I just got the test pressing through and it's sounding great - thanks in no small part to the great mastering job done at Electric Mastering (where they have the old EMI Lagos transfer desk - analogue heaven!)

'Trouble Woman', featuring Roachford, will be the next single release and will come with a remix from the one and only Steinski. Two legends on one track - lucky me :) There's also a tremendous floor shaking mix from Featurecast to round out the package.

Other guests on the LP include the fabulous dutch soulstress Sitzka, and killer Geordie soul man John Turrell (of Smoove & Turrell fame). Todd Simon (Connie Price & The Keystones / The Lions / Stones Throw) provides the soul horns on a few tracks, alongside Ben Castle and a raft of other long time Rubberfunk collaborators.

Keep an eye on my soundcloud page for some album previews, alongside some remixes and works in progress:

Earlier in the year I also got round to finally working with Strictly Kev on his new DJ Food project - recording some drums for the recently released 'One Man's Weird Is Another Man's World' EP - out now on Ninja Tune. We've been talking about doing it for years so it was great to get it hooked up. Hear from Kev all about the making of the EP here:

So, that's all for now - more news on release dates nearer the time! In the meantime, keep an eye on the Twitter and Facebook pages for updates ..

Judging by The Stereo MCs, The Unabombers and Dr Rubberfunk with his crack squad of A&R veterans deemed Dan Shannon to be the winner, closely followed by The Broken Beatnicks. Dan's mix featured on the 'My Life At 33' Remix EP 12" released in February, alongside mixes from Yam Who? and Lost Idol. The Broken Beatniks version featured as part of the digital bundle, weighing in at 9 tracks - extra goodies from Wrong Tom (Hard-Fi), Ancient Astronauts and Protassov in that bundle too - check it out at your nearest mp3 retailer. • Dr Rubberfunk's Funky Christmas

    16. Dez. 2007, 13:07

Back in 2004 I was asked by BBC 6 Music to put together a few 10 minute mixes of Christmas based funk & soul tunes, and by 2005, when they asked me to do 3 more, it grew into the first volume of my Dr Rubberfunk Funky Christmas series. I made it available for download to a great response, so Volume 2 followed in 2006.

Since the Funky Halloween mix went online back in October, I've had lots of messages asking for another installment in the Funky Christmas series, so after much digging in the crates I'm pleased to announce that Volume 3 is finally here!

In other end of year type news, we'll be releasing a final EP of remixes from 'My Life At 33' in February 2008. The digital downloads bundle features additional mixes of '...Lothario' from Hard-Fi dub co-hort Wrongtom and of 'Taking Over' from remix comp runners-up Broken Beatnicks. Coupled with a pair of B-boy style mixes of 'Watch The Tables Turn' from Germany's Switchstance Recordings crew, it's a bumper package alright!

When the dust has settled from that release, we'll be straight into another EP, this time for Jalapeno Records, who I've signed to for my next album ... more on that in the New Year ;)

So, it just remains for me to wish everyone and very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2008 - thanks for all the support this year, hope to see some of you celebrating NYE with me, DJ Vadim, Mr Thing and The Herbaliser at The Westbury.
