Sat 15 Oct – Enter Shikari, Your Demise, Letlive
I arrived with 2 people, 1 in whom I’d never met before. Nevertheless, I actually got a Enter Shikari hoodie from him, and despite the fact that it was a size 14; in which both of us are half that size, it was Enter Shikari merchandise, so I was estastic. The fleece that I did have, I managed to lose and as the gig was going on, I noticed it being chucked from one side to the other. What can I say, it was £2 from Tesco.
So as you may or may not be able to of guessed by now, I went to see Enter Shikari. It was a birthday present from the guys I was going with, in whom of course, I knew pre-gig. To put it simply; it was mental and fucking amazing!
The support were pretty awesome. Letlive were first up, and they actually played my favourite track from them- Homeless Jazz, which was awesome. At this point, me and my mates (plus guys in whom were my mates friends) stayed back, because we weren’t too fussed. Despite them being mental, Jason Butler (Letlive vocalist) decided to climb the balcony and perform on there for a bit, which was random, mental and I guess it was a way of us, as the crazy moshers, to remember the band, if we’d never heard of them before.
The next act, Your Demise, were pretty good. A lot of the reviews from friends on Facebook and friends I’d made at the gig said that they were very cocky. The continuous chant from Ed McRae (Your Demise vocalist) saying ‘EVERYONE, COME FORWARD’ and ‘MOVE TO THE FUCKING FRONT’ was enough for me personally to do nothing more than one; Move to the front, and two; Get some video footage, like I did do, when Jason Butler was on the balcony singing his heart out. The screaming technique from Your Demise, and their memorable lyrics are enough for me to say that musically- Your Demise are better than Letlive, however Your Demise didn’t have that natural live talent, like Letlive did. I’m not saying they weren’t good, they were, but they weren’t as good.
After that act, I didn’t dare move. During Your Demises performance, me and my friend Doug managed to get to the 3rd row. So after half an hour of chanting ‘SHIKARI’ and ‘AND STILL WE WILL BE HERE, STANDING LIKE STATUES’, the band got on stage and the crowd went bloody mental. I got whacked in my recently stretched, and tender ear several times, which was painful enough to find it had swelled up and bled when I got home. Despite that, I managed to get some great shots of the band members, and some awesome video footage, which is always great. Zzzonked was my favourite live performance from the band, just because I managed to get absolutely mental myself and jump into some random people. I had to stay out of the crowd for a little bit after me and my friend Michael found out that two of the people we were with managed to get kicked out, because their ticket wasn’t valid. So whilst they were at the train station throughout the entire Enter Shikari set, Doug, Michael and me were moshing it. I went back right into the crowd towards the end, after the two decided to stay back, and I got one decent view. I was right in front of Rory at the end, which was awesome! After playing such songs as ‘Mothership’, ‘Destabilise’ and ‘Sssnakepit’- we wanted an encore, so they came back on; and they played ‘Solidarity’, ‘Sorry You’re Not A Winner’ and ‘Ok, Time For Plan B’ they left us sweaty, dehydrated, buzzing, exhausted, and bloody amazing.
They were definitely the strongest band of the night, and it was definitely one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to.
