Name your top ten artists on

1 Muse
2 Radiohead
3 The Beatles
4 Patrick Wolf
5 Rufus Wainwright
6 Suzanne Vega
7 Led Zeppelin
8 Paul McCartney
9 Emiliana Torrini
10 Sigur Rós

How many times have you listened to number one (Muse)?

Is this your favourite band?
Um no. Favourite contemporary band, yes.

What got you into number one?
Well... In mid-2006 I heard Megalomania (acoustic) and Starlight, and they put me off. And even though I already had Showbiz, Absolution and Black Holes and Revelations, I didn't want to give them a chance, the song titles themselves creeped me out slightly (creepy man, that Bellamy.) Then, over the following months I started to change my mind, and my ears picked up on the smoking hotness of Supermassive Black Hole, it did't sound overly creepy and angsty, just sexy and fun and well done, and I thought, okay, take 2.

Why have you listened to them so much?
Because I became obsessed with them at around the same time that I started using

Favourite song(s)?
I hate this question. Glorious, Stockholm Syndrome, Map of the Problematique, Falling Down, Hoodoo, Butterflies & Hurricanes, Dead Star, and most others.

Something you think you’d thoroughly enjoy doing with the band?
An orgy on shrooms.

Favourite memory of the artist?
Seeing them live, losing my brains screaming as they launched into Supermassive, collectively bouncing to Time Is Running Out, being really touched by Invincible and Map of the Problematique.

How many times listened to number two (Radiohead)?

What got you into them?
Everything in Its Right Place.

What makes you like them so much?
Everything... The boundless creativity and neverending invention, the musical prowess, Thom's voice, the unique ability to express emotions through music, emotions you couldn't possibly verbalise or even discern when they're just stirring around inside you.

Favourite song(s)?
H8! 15 Step, Fake Plastic Trees, Last Flowers, Idioteque, Life in a Glasshouse, Everything in Its Right Place, (Nice Dream), We Suck Young Blood. (Your Time Is Up.), How to Disappear Completely, Exit Music (for a Film), Lucky, Just etc.

Favourite memory of artist?
Dancing around in Thom style to 15 Step, and generally all the times I was completely, inexpressibly overwhelmed by the music.

How many times have you listened to number three (The Beatles)?

Would you pay thirty dollars to see them in concert?

Favourite song(s)?
Fuck you. All of Abbey Road..... fuck it. Every song they've ever done, with maybe half a dozen exceptions, from the early days and from the apeshit fuzzy psychedelic times.

How many times have you listened to four (Patrick Wolf)?

Would you go fishing with them?
Most definitely, yes. Anything with him. Altough he might have a tendency to catch fish that then turn into glimmering girls, but never mind that, I'll be his glimmering girl with apple blossoms in my hair. He loves the sea, but I don't think he's that much into killing fish on a large scale, we'd probably just do fish-watching.

Any particular emotions run through you when you listen?
Wonderful emotions. Joy, deep melancholy, desire, more joy, love, hope, joy, sadness, longing, amazement...

Favourite song(s)?
Teignmouth, Penzance, Overture, The Magic Position, Wind In The Wires, The Libertine, The Hazelwood, Bloodbeat, Pigeon Song, Bluebells, The Stars, Augustine, Ghost Song, his cover of On Sussex Downs, omg I can't stop.

How many times have you listened to five (Rufus Wainwright)?

What’s so intriguing about them?
His voice, his songwriting, his music. Duh. He can be sultry, witty, heart-wrenching, uplifting, melodramatic, carefree, sometimes all at the same time.

Could you imagine them in a circus?
Oh yes. He's made for the stage, and he doesn't mind a bit of dressing up.

Favourite song(s):
Poses, Harvester Of Hearts, The Art Teacher, Gay Messiah, Going To A Town, Beautiful Child, Hometown Waltz, This Love Affair and his unmatchable covers of Leonard Cohen songs, namely Chelsea Hotel No. 2 and Everybody Knows.

How many times for six (Suzanne Vega)?

How many 3’s in a <3333333 would you give them and why?
because that's how long I felt like pressing the 3 key now.

Favourite song(s)?
Cracking, Marlene on the Wall, Undertow, Some Journey, The Queen And The Soldier (um I could list half of each album), Ironbound / Fancy Poultry, Calypso, Gypsy, Tired Of Sleeping, Room Off The Street, Pilgrimage, Blood Makes Noise, In Liverpool, Blood Sings, Birth-Day (Love Made Real), Caramel, Stockings, World Before Columbus, Penitent, It Makes Me Wonder, Song in Red and Gray, Harbor Song, New York Is a Woman, Pornographer's Dream

How many times for 7 (Led Zeppelin)?

I hear 7 is a magical number, is this band magical?
One hundred per cent magic, with sparkle, glitter, fairies, wizards, princes on white horses, ringwraiths and lemons.

Favourite song(s)?
Ten Years Gone, The Battle of Evermore, Since I've Been Loving You, That's the Way, Going to California, The Rain Song, No Quarter, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, What Is and What Should Never Be, The Rover, Kashmir, [track artist=Led Zeppelin]Nobody's Fault But Mine, In the Evening, Travelling Riverside Blues

How many times for eight (Paul McCartney)?

How long have you liked this artist?
A good six-seven years. Not liked, LOVED.

Favourite song(s)?
Rinse the Raindrops (!!!), Maybe I'm Amazed, Temporary Secretary, Here Today, Wanderlust, Pretty Little Head, Distractions, The Song We Were Singing, Somedays, Beautiful Night, Great Day, No Other Baby, Tuesday, Lonely Road, From a Lover to a Friend, Your Loving Flame, Vanilla Sky, Jenny Wren, Growing Up, Falling Down, Friends to Go, At the Mercy, How Kind of You, Promise to You Girl, House of Wax... Not including any Wings stuff, of course, that list would be twice as long as this.

Poor nine and ten, how many times you listened to them?
203 for Emilíana Torrini and 194 for Sigur Rós.

Why have them as number nine and ten, where is the love?
Many Sigur Rós songs are quite long, so 194 plays probably add up to a much longer time spent listening than that of some of the artists higher up on the list. As for Emilíana, she doesn't have a vast discography, and I do love her.

How long have you liked them?
Sigur Rós since 2002 or whenever I got the Vanilla Sky soundtrack, Emilíana since December 2006.

What are the poor artists from 11-20?

11 Amy Winehouse
12 Nine Inch Nails
13 The Hives
14 Fiona Apple
15 Bob Dylan
16 Enya
17 Sinéad O'Connor
18 Loreena McKennitt
19 U2
20 The Divine Comedy (poor? haha, I've been listening to TDC for about two weeks, this is is a colossal position.)
