Really? He's always getting praised for his originality, so that kind of reaction is really surprising. I will look into more from The Who, I've had Quadrophenia for some time now but never listened to it... I recommend you try more Sonic Youth. Sister and EVOL are good albums for a newer listener, more ambitious people might want to take on Bad Moon Rising, Washing Machine and A Thousand Leaves. Anything from 2000 onwards may as well be left till last. Oh and also, the second disc on the Daydream Nation Deluxe Edition is a live album, I actually think it's a shitload more accessible than the record itself. Way noisier, which I like. So you could try that too.
