I just got a new computer, and have had some trouble getting my Audioscrobbler set up(though it's working now), and now I have an odd compulsion to run my entire MP3 collection through MusicBrainz before rebuilding my playlists. So, to tide over my pulsating hordes of rabid fans, I thought I'd do a few quick reviews of CDs borrowed from the ever-obliging Edmonton Public Library that I listened to this week. To keep this from being too monolithic, and inflate my post count, I'll do them all separately…
The Beauty of The Rain–I'm not a big fan of minimal acoustic folk music in general, though I'm sure there are exceptions. I liked End of The Summer, but Mortal City I found to be too minimal, though the title track(Mortal City)was a wonderful story. This album falls somewhere between the two. I liked the more dynamic tracks, like I Saw A Bird Fly Away and The World's Not Falling Apart. What can I say, I like a bit of a beat, and some harmony. But overall it doesn't belong in my collection.
