Decent Albums

Some albums are bound to find a place they call "home" in the mind of the listener. Here's a list of a few albums that are in my opinion close to perfection:

  • A Blaze In The Northern Sky: The greatest Darkthrone album ever made. I don't think they could top this one even if they actually tried. Darkthrone might have turned into a sort of joke band for some people, but that doesn't make this album any less awesome. What I like about it musically is definitely everything, including the production which is raw, but fits the whole concept of the record pretty well.
  • Desert Northern Hell: Perhaps not the most "cult" album by Tsjuder, still Desert Northern Hell is a great example of straightforward Black Metal, retaining a traditionalistic sound which still is not bound to remain uncreative. This is an album I recommend to any fan of Metal in general (Except perhaps to people who really detest Black Metal).
  • Manifestations 2002: Why not any other album by DSO? Why Manifestations 2002? Well, it simply has an outstanding assortment of songs, the thing with other Deathspell Omega albums is that I often like some songs and are bored by the rest of them, but this album never fails to catch my attention.
  • Manifesting The Raging Beast: The dying proof that melody has a place in "true" Black Metal. "Intelligent" lyrics (well, as Intelligent as something religious can be), this is not the standard God bashery, and also the vocals sound at the same time calmed, fierce, insane, and mysterious.
  • Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam: To most people this isn't the best Gorgoroth album, but to me it is because it keeps me ententained.
  • Panzer Division Marduk: Some people bash this one for being just an unoriginal blastbeat fest, to me every song in it is different from the others (although this might be just a side-effect one gets from listening to it so much). Truth be told, Marduk here is not as chaotic as Funeral Mist, Antaeus or Katharsis, also not as brutal as Archgoat, Bestial Warlust, or Tenebrosus, but hey at least it delivers both quality and consistency.
  • De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas: Best Mayhem album, created by "The original Mayhem" and a genre-defining piece. I'm sure most people agree with this. Not much to say about it that hasn't been said before. Great songs, and possibly a peculiar vocal performance.
  • Draco Sit Mihi Dux: Shortly after I started to ponder which Ondskapt album to include on this list, I decided to include this one because I like every single song in it. The vocals are otherworldly, the atmosphere is one of the most embracing I have experienced.
  • Perdition Gospel: This album is made of memorable riffing, very capable drumming, perceivable basslines, echoes vocals, and win. With just four tracks it is perhaps too short, but on the other side all of these tracks are quality tracks.
  • Mystérion Tés Anomias: As with the previous album (well, actually the previous one is an EP, but who cares), this one has only four tracks. These four tracks, though, have earned this band quite a reputation and it's certainly not a coincidence. The drumming here is just right, and the vocals could hardly carry any more scorn.
  • De Contemplanda Morte: A slow and powerful album, with a ghastly content that sounds as evil as it sounds ethereal, this album holds a good share entropy, majesty, and interesting musicianship.
  • IV: The Eerie Cold: Depressive Black Metal. I don't get what's so depressive about it, surely it's the lyrics but they're in Swedish and I can only understand a few lines anyway. I won't get into that matter, which seems to be so common in DSBM bands' shoutboxes these days (weather or not DSBM is "emo" or "not true" because it is supposedly focused on a feature perceived as 'weak' by the hard-boiled Legionnaires of Infernal Perdition that call themselves Trve Black Metal Heads). I just like the stuff in this album, it's highly artsy and so forth. I guess only fags like Kvaforth can create such blasturbashino music. But really I do like this album, seriously.

There are two things that all of these albums share in my opinion, these (among other things) make them such masterpieces:
    - They're varied.
    - They ont les plúsè grandés âtmosfères dè róses mélancoliqués noirês (notfrench).
    - ALL KILLER NO FILLER, SIR.

Some bands are cool (etc) but didn't make it into the list because some of their songs are crappy.

  • Watain: SWORN. TO THE DARK. Please, could I get more cheese in a single song? Come on guys. Watain could make a truly great album if they were more like in the old Casus Luciferi days, nowadays the vocalist dude looks like Axl Rose or something.
  • Other Blaelk Meterl bands/albums: shall perhaps be posted later.

    The end.
