Awesomeheid!

I would highly recommend their first 3 albums especially The Shadowthrone, black metal with a medieval vibe basically. Anything after that is more down to personal preference due to the fact they changed their sound a fair bit afterwards. Going by some of the bands in your library, I think you'll really like them! Hope that new Evilfeast track makes it onto their next album, it's amazing!

Thanks :D Goes without saying but amazing library you've got there yourself as well! Always good to see fellow fans of Summoning...and Evilfeast as well - a very fitting band for this season. Just enjoying their new track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OZfKmF7ShU roll on a new album

Ah, I knew I forgot something.. Regarding music similar to Lustre I also recommend checking out "Les Hivers de Notre Epoque" by Forteresse (if You haven't already); that's a good one.. Cheers!

--> However, it has grown on me and now I find it to be an excellent record.. They seem to have rapidly risen in popularity, but that is well deserved - the end result shows that they have put a lot of thought and work into that album.. My name's Reinis, by the way :)

MO just released a split with Aeon Winds, and the one song I have heard from it ("The Tempest Entranced") is once again splendid.. Yes, Lustre is great, but somehow his songs get old for me rather fast.. I have a hard time naming similar musicians as I indeed find his style quite original, I call it "relaxing / recreational black metal" :) His other band, Starlit, seems to be the most similar, also Nychts from Switzerland are very good at conjuring that drifting, spacy atmosphere.. Maybe also Alrakis from Germany (he says this year will see a release of his 2nd (and last) album).. Elderwind sounds like a slightly upgraded Lustre, but I see You are already familiar with his work.. Oh yes, I was expecting "Echoes of Battle" since it was announced on the Northern Silence site, but after the first exposure I thought it was too much of a Summoning worship - I even got reminded of certain songs like "Khazad Dum" and "The Loud Music of the Sky" -->

Hyvää päivää! Not bad, hungover like a wolverine at the moment though, but I don't have to work until Thursday, which is a relief! Thanks for the compliment, yours ain't too shabby either, we seem to both enjoy a vast array of music, which is great. I saw that you listen to psytrance, so I'm wondering if you could listen to a mix of mine and tell me what you think of it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6AnEzoUhhI

Another band you might really like is Thurisaz. They are amazing as well, and a band I heard not too long ago and fell in love with. Also, you might really like Orphaned Land, their Mabool album is unbelievable.

Hey Nick :) Late reply I know, but I'll continue where we left off :D Scandinavia does indeed sound like a great region. Would like to travel there sometime as well. It just seem like the people there are much more in tune with nature, and live much healthier, productive & more enjoyable lives, whereas most of us here in North America are stuck living in unnatural concrete jungles with stressful 9-5 office jobs, and not a heck of alot to be happy about. How are your studies going, and how did you like Summonings album? :-)

So, how are things in the Netherlands my friend? :D I've always found everyone from there, Switzerland, and Scandinavia to be some of the nicest, most easy going people around. Is it something in the water there? :P Summoning's new album comes out soon, so we'll see how it compares to the Caladan Brood album.

No worries about not introducing yourself Nick :D I think I've seen your username around here as well at some point, and we also share a very similar taste in music, so it's nice to have you as my friend as well :P And yes, I've been lurking around here for several years now, so I'm not surprised you've encountered some of my posts haha xD I've also used the same username on some other sites, which has helped some other folks track me down here :D That would be funny if your Dad heard a black metal-rendition of one of his favorite books! I hope the band keeps going, because it's a pretty remarkable album for a debut release^^

Hi Nick! Nou for starters: Sun of the Blind - fantastische atmo space BM; Alrakis - space ambient / bm.

Umm, well I'm not a huge fan of underground rap but I do like Cage and The Jokerr, have you heard of them? Also yeah, I found it kind of funny how I clicked on your page to recommend you a rapper and found out we like a lot of the same bands. And I sent you a friend request! :)

Cheers!

Electronic genres - well, I used to be a big fan of drum'n'bass, though now I rarely listen to it. Trance is fine as well, but yea, not for a long time - I have to try out some ambient though, it's a genre I never had much experience with, just some elements of it in some metal music. But it's kinda difficult, when I listen to electronica, I do not care so much about the genre, but more of its feeling. For chilling out, perfect stuff is minimal/downtempo electronica from artists such as Trifonic or Trentemøller. When I feel for some harder electronic stuff, nowadays I tend to reach for some breakcore (apart from its crazy, abrasive sounds it tends to be kinda moody as well) - Igorrr or Venetian Snares, occassionally dubstep (great party music). And whatever the mood is, my favourite artists are Orbital, Grimes or Crystal Castles.

i am fascinated by what you said about medicine. for a very long time i wanted to be a psychiatrist, because i love human beings and for me the mind, emotions, and the tensions and boundaries between what is "normal" and "acceptable" and what isn't are very important to me. i would dearly enjoy reading the philosophical work that you wrote in your first year, please send it to me if you like! as for philosophy, i enjoy philosophers like slavoj zizek, lacan, kristeva. basically cultural and gender studies, and a little bit of psychoanalysis. tell me what fascinates you most about neurology or pediatrics. i am a student, yes, (and a poet). i'm applying to master's programs at the moment. as for saudi arabia i've lived here most of my life but my parents are from bangladesh and i was born in america (and schooled in american institutions). as an expatriate then, my experience in saudi arabia might not be as authentic as you hope but i would be happy to answer any questions you have.

i think the second thing you said is true, that we aren't around when the real conversations take place. i feel like there is a kind of societal taboo against having genuine or deep conversations with someone you just meet, usually people protect each other and talk about superficial things that wouldn't really require them to expose who they are. in a sense i think it's important because it lets people carry on and live life perhaps, maybe less intense. and it also allows i think people who do not intrinsically connect to still carry on relations with one another (like in the workplace, in class). but this is what i love about last.fm once in a while you can be a watcher to someone's conversations. now i do wish i remember which conversation of yours i read. i like what you said about being shy as well, and completely agree that the worst part is that most of the times they are half way across the world. that is pretty much the story of my life.

About them albums, to be honest, Sigh and Wintersun's new albums didn't come up to my expectations. There are some nice parts, but they hardly are those type of albums I would play from start to end without skipping any song. And yea I know Carach Angren, their new album was really cool. I really dig their great music and lyrics overall, wish I could see them live someday :) My top 3 of 2012 would go to Ne Obliviscaris, Woods of Ypres and Alcest. All of them have some really distinctive and original approach to black metal. NeO are progressive, use a lot of violin, clean and harsh vocals alike. Woods are more doomy and with clean vocals, and I guess you know Alcest, with their dreamy sounds.

The metal party was ok. They usually project generally favorite bands such as Sabaton, Slipknot and Rammstein (which generally are kinda meh for me, haha), because after all, they do it for the masses and people in general don't usually party to some doom metal and stuff. But it surprised me how many people were enjoying Sólstafir, for example. For me it's a nice place to spend a friday's night. And I have similar problem with you. Mostly I talk about my most fav metal bands with fellows across internet, but much less with friends. But after all, you can discover something nice from some other music style they listen to and recommend something to them, if they are interested.

that's such a lovely thing for you to say, thank you! i was reading a series of messages you were sharing with someone, but i can't remember what you were saying or what the messages were about. but i really liked them and it make me want to friend you. i tend to do this on last.fm, when i browse and if i see a conversation i enjoy i often wish i could get to know the people involved. unfortunately it's not something one can do in real life -- at least not as much as i'd want to. i really enjoy philosophy/literature as well, and i see that you are interested in medical school? my sister is studying medicine -- what do you find fascinating about it?

Hello, I guess lately I'm in the mood for spreading news :D Winterfylleth were a nice find to me, and Fleshgod Apocalypse is a good choice before going to bed, hehe. This year's Christmas in Czech Republic is kinda weird, because all the snow thawed last week ;/ But it's below zero anyway. Bought my presents for family yesterday, and today I'm going to a metal party (where videoclips are played and projected), as one of the many "apocalypse parties" in my city of Zlín. How's it going in Netherlands? And what are your fav albums of 2012?

Heey :) Ja je hebt echt wat gemist vorige week :/ Het was heel erg tof! Jammer dat Make a Change gisteren niet doorging.
