10. Ghengis tron
- Board Up the House
A Very Interesting and strange album- lots of dancy synth and electronics, juxtaposed against grinding metal and screeching vocals.
Very Prog-heavy album by Norwegian Viking Heavyweights. Spacey and strange as always, a very good release for the band.
An utterly devastating depressive black metal album, with a feminine touch. A female does all of the instruments, giving the whole album another kind of feel.
A brutal and unrelenting death metal album. One of my favorites of the year due to it's nonstop onslaught. Amazing drumming and guitar playing abound
-Zeit der Cherusker
A NSBM album in the vein of Graveland. Epic, evil, and proud. The way the NSBM was meant to be. Rob Darken would be proud.
5. Drowning the Light
-Through The Noose Of Existence
Another DSBM album, utterly depressing, sounds similiar to both Leviathan and Mutillation
-The White EP
Not really a metal album, but by a metal band. Beautiful landscapes, seem to convey the calm and cold of winter, and campfire songs of pagan warriors, resting after a long battle.
-Assassins: Black Meddle Pt. 1
Surely a promising band in the genre. Mixing traditional black metal with psychadelic sounds, heavily influenced by Pink Floyd, this band creates a sound that is mysterious and at the same time...uplifting? A positive black metal band? Wow. But really, this is an engaging and exciting album that everyone, any metal fan should really check out. One of my favorites of the year
An epic EP in it's scale and pacing. Depressing, psychadelic, tragic, engulfing, heavy. Words to describe the album as a whole. If you like this band already, check it out, or if not, check it out anyway, if you like something like Xasthur but want More. Paysage D'Hiver fans take note
1. I'm in a Coffin
-One Final Action
Maybe I'm biased because I know the band more personally, but, this band has created the future of depressive black metal. Never have i heard more distraught, despaired vocals that are frighteningly real, that are vivid and convicted in every sense. This band creates an atmosphere that will haunt, will scare the living shit out of you sometimes. If you are in a good mood, preapre to get down. If youre in a down mood already, stay away from lethal objects...The best of the year, to me.
I'm missing a lot of albums, because this year I was into older music. I Know Boris released a fantastic album, from what I have heard, but I did not get a chance to listen to it. I was too into their older music to notice. And Sunn O))) is the same case. If you have any suggestions of albums this year, let me know, if anyone reads this..
