Davide Swarup - Music For Hang (2007)http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/9851/goldfrappfeltmountainzb3.jpg
Score: 4,384; Length: 1:09:14; 12 tracks
In the spring of 2008 I went on a little trip to Barcelona. While wandering through the streets me and my friends noticed a weird sound. It sounded warm, intense, playfull and very emotional. When we came close to it it appeared to be just one person playing on one single instrument. This was very surprising, because from a distance it sounded like a whole group of musicians. Multiple layers of melodies where played at the same time and it blended together enormously smooth. I'd never seen it before, but I was in love with the sound and the instrument right away. At home I looked it up on the internet and the instrument appeared to be the hang drum. It's a melodious percussive instrument made of steel and when simply looking at the instrument I still can not believe that such beautifull melodies can be created with it. When diving a little deeper into the hang music, Davide Swarup crossed my path. From all the hang drum players I've listened to he moves me the most. His album 'Music For Hang' is so solid and keeps being interesting the whole ride. It's hard to pick out the best tracks, but after a lot of listens for me the standouts have to be 'Moods-An Opening' and 'And The Groove'. And you are lucky, because 'Moods-An Opening' is available as a full track on last.fm. I really recommend you to go listen to this track and I'm sure you will love this beautifull and distinctive sound just as I do! (10-02-2009)

Frank Riggio - Anamorphose (2008)http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/9234/sylkougalafillevertem.jpg
Score: 4,208; Length: 1:04:25; 14 tracks
A very solid release from this French man. The guy gets better with every release. His first album 'Visible In Darkness' was alright, but had a couple of too recognisable samples, his mix album 'Gourmet Scavanger' was a very fine collection of unknown tracks, but with Anamorphose he definately deserves to make this list. His album is full of very beautiful soundscapes, very reminiscent of the soundscapes made by 'Amon Tobin', although he sure has a unique style by his own. All the songs on the album are very story telling pieces with a lot of layers in it, so no easy listening music here! Well, it is possible to use it as background music, but you get the best experience out of it by listening to it with every single cell of your brain. Best part of it is the perfect track 'Robots Designed By Robots'. It's the heaviest piece on 'Anamorphose' and the beats are just extremely well crafted. Luckily the heavy songs are alternated with more peacefull ones, which makes this album a cohesive one and a very pleasant listening experience. While listening to the album for making this review it really gets me by surprise again and I'm making a reminder for myself right now to listen to this album again in the very near future. And you should do the exact same thing. (05-04-2009)
