Man it's weird looking at my older comments here now, I basically hate kpop now hahaha. Also, I swear I'm totally behind when it comes to j-indies, I mainly only listen to the bands I discovered years ago, and only download the new stuff they put out. Any new stuff out there I should totally be getting down on? Of course I still LOVE Japanese indie and wanna get more into it again, so I'm definitely interested in your proposal.

that's a good ass list. to be honest, i haven't listened to St. Vincent all that much. need to get on that. you don't listen to Kendrick Lamar, huh? and actually...i didn't think i'd say this, but the new Common is fucking good. came back with a vengeance, especially after the trainwreck that was UMC. No I.D. produced the whole thing, one of the most unheralded producers ever. and yeah, speak of disappointments haha. i still have faith in Lupe, unlike some people. and i know what you mean. i just realized what a daunting library i have, with all the untouched music i haven't given attention. trying to do that right meow

Yeah, G-Dragon has gotten a bit of a bad rap for plagiarism with one song, but generally he's really talented when it comes to composing and performing music. You should hear his falsetto in this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9bCmdeFxjg

well that's definitely good to hear. i was kind of MIA on lastfm recently, but i think all the good music (like you said) that came out this year helped. and man, that's horrible. sorry to hear that, college game stressful. (i don't actually say that in life, but why do i say that a lot on here). and yeah don't rush production, it'll come to you at the most random of times. and definitely. what are your favorite releases?

That being said... there's a lot of fuck yous and whatnot thrown around in k-rap. But most people who say stuff like that stick to Epik High's popular releases and... not much else at all really. Your page is my new ranting space.

    14. Dez. 2011 Antworten
  • a_spaceman

Yeah, it's totally weird, Epik High are pioneers of modern Korean hip-hop, not pop. I hate it when people say Korea makes rap listenable. I actually listen to more Korean rap than hip-hop music in general, but I don't get the people who only appreciate that specific nation's hip-hop. It's really odd. I guess it's an image thing/not being able to understand the words works for people who aren't into rude or riskué lyrics.

Yozoh <3 There's a lot of average kpop out there - so much of it is just copying what other people did that sold well in an attempt to do the same. It's usually more about good songs than good albums - Abracadabra by Brown Eyed Girls and TRICK by SNSD are examples of some of the best pop songs to ever have existed imho :D BIGBANG is probably the only group that is constantly putting out the best pop music with every song released, they're the best.

    14. Dez. 2011 Antworten
  • a_spaceman

Totally. The image is a part of the kpop aesthetic - it's an inescapable part of being a fan of the genre and/or its artists. Since it's such a big part of it it often overrides the music itself, for sure, which is bad. But getting into everything else that makes Korean music and music in general what it is is a lot of the fun and a big part of being a fan. For a lot of people, anyway. Being a big fan of Tablo, BIGBANG, 2NE1 etc, I also enjoy reblogging images of them on Tumblr, watching videos of them messing around etc. Pretty typical kpop fandom stuff, but the listening to the music itself is always the most enjoyable part of being a fan. Ramble ramble.

Thats word, I didnt really pick up hip hop HARD till I was 11-12 myself. Yeah my parents were mainly classic rock, folk, blues, and the early days of metal, some oldies as well. Heard Jazz and stuff like that around friends and their family. Haha I am very lucky. Not only does she have good tastes shes ALSO a sports fan and we like the same teams as well (Packers and Celtics) not to mention can watch pro wrestling together as well haha, on top of all that shes beautiful, strong, smart black woman with a great sense of humor. I never lose sight of that blessing. I went through a lot of shitty ones before her. My ex before her hacked my AIM and lastfm and thats the least she did haha. You'll find her though, just gotta keep your heart and mind open. The right one will open up your soul to them as well and thats when you know.. And thanks man, very appreciated.

Yeah man same here, I think hating is lame, pointless, in my eyes: a wasted emotion. I don't like a lot of shit, but I don't waste my energy on it. I just wish em the best and keep it moving. Yeah I try and keep it eclectic too, I grew up that way but hip hop takes up most of my listening nowadays. Especially when I'm at home (since thats the only place I scrobble). My fiancee has a very eclectic tastes she puts me onto a lot of shit, even shit i don't think she realizes she does lol.. Love that girl. Exactly, never enough always a good thing to have haha.

Thanks for the music suggestion!! I'm all about Astronautalis's recent album, but when I finally saturate myself with it, Burial will be the next thing I check out. :) And film is DEFINITELY not a worthless thing to pursue! I also looove psychological thrillers and horror! I don't know why I do, because I scare easily, but it's so fun to be scared while watching a movie. (It's the going to bed afterwards that is rough, haha!) My brother is a real movie buff, & always talks about how it's all about the talent of directors, that directors are the ones who can pull amazing things out of actors. On facebook, he doesn't put down movie titles he likes, but directors. And thank you for the kind compliments! :) I don't do much art myself anymore; I kind of became disenchanted with photography because mine was starting to look like everyone else's. Ah well, maybe I just need a break!
