A history of Middle-Earth (via Summoning)

11. Dez. 2009, 6:29

This is a playlist that painstakingly recounts the history of Middle-Earth via Summoning's music. The timeline this playlist reconstructs starts with The Silmarillion moves to The Hobbit and ends with The Lord of the Rings.

When piecing it together, the songs selected were fitted together according to their relation in the grand timeline using either their title or their lyrical content for the connection. The more obscure-seeming connections were made using this invaluable thread here.

Any comments/questions are welcome.
Enjoy the 4 hour journey.

Happy to share! I'm on a sabbatical this year and I spent the month of June doing nothing but listening to the audiobook versions of The Silmarillion, The Hobbit & LOTR. At the same time I was researching/downloading every Tolkien-related metal band I would discover as I looked up names/places that would come up in the books. I knew Summoning already of course, and one of the things I wanted to do was to make this playlist if at all possible. I eventually made a outrageous one involving every band/artist I had discovered and this one......perhaps one day i'll post that one. But yeah, it took awhile but being able to piece together a history of Middle-Earth strictly with the music of Summoning (aka THE GREATEST TOLKIEN BAND EVER) was incredibly satisfying.

Thanks for the comment and you are indeed right that Mirdautas Vras should be included. I pondered where to put it as its kinda from the Uruk-Hai perspective and thought it fit nicely after Saruman as in relation to the timeline the company did get separated before going to the Paths of the Dead (represented by The Passing of the Grey Company) Cheers and thanks again.

Most include black metal features, but not all (e.g. Arcenstone). Overally it's more atmospheric than black metal music anyway...

And again, thank you so much for the continued comments...glad that so many others have found it as useful/fun as I did. I will be updating it as well in the near future when I have fully parsed the upcoming masterpiece that will be 'Old Mornings Dawn'. \m/ \m/
