MY Top Ten Film Themes

I can't get enough of film scores lately. I could listen to them all day. So I decided to make a list of my top ten favorite themes of all time. Okay so they're not really top ten themes. It's more like ten movies and a few, selected tracks from them. It was hard to pick, give me a break. Anyway, these ten scores I've listened to over and over again so I'm really counting replay value here.

Of course I could easily add another fifteen titles to this list but I think these particular tracks are my ultimate favorites. Personally I'm just proud of myself for including Williams only three times.

1.) Requiem for a Dream : Clint Mansell & Kronos Quartet
- Hope Overture
- Lux Aeterna

2.) Dragonheart : Randy Edelman
- The World Of The Heart(Main Title)

3.) Peter Pan(2003) : James Newton Howard
- Flying

4.) Terminator 2 Judgment Day : Brad Fiedel
- Main Title

5.) Indiana Jones : John Williams
- Raiders March(Main Title)
- The Penitent Man Will Pass (Last Crusade)

6.) Lord of the Rings : Howard Shore
- Concerning Hobbits
- Knife In The Dark
- The Bridge of Khazad Dum
- The Riders of Rohan
* I could honestly just say all three albums because the music was just perfect.

7.) Back to the Future : Alan Silvestri
- Main Title

8.)Jurassic Park : John Williams
- Theme From Jurassic Park

9.) Harry Potter : John Williams
- Hedwig's Theme(HP Main Title)
- Buckbeak's Flight(HP:PoA)

10.) The Fountain: Clint Mansell & Kronos Quartet
- The Last Man
- Stay With Me
- Death Is the Road to Awe

Hey, I totally agree with your selection, especially with Requiem for a Dream, great soundtrack. I think you should add the Fight Club final scene soundtrack, where *SPOILER* the building is being destroyed *SPOILER*. Anyway, great selection of soundtracks.

Yeah, I know the one you're talking about. It's Where Is My Mind by the Pixies. I agree that's an awesome song and it fits the scene perfectly. The only thing is that in this particular list I was only including scores put together by composers. Although the Fight Club ost is one of my faves too :)

Nice selection of themes! :) I agree with all of them, basically. Keep scrobbling!

though Lux Aeterna & the overtures are one of the greatest things composed by Clint Mansell (or ever, for that matter), but I'd put the songs from The Fountain even higher. IMO any of the Fountain songs > any of the Requiem songs. and that's a lot.

James newton howard's ost to lady in the water is also very good, esp 'Prologue'.

Well chosen, especially with the cues taken directly from my childhood by Fiedel, Silvestri and Williams... don't you think Silvestri is severely underrated by Hollywood standards considering how many scores he's actually written?? I have to give mention to Thomas Newman though, whose American Beauty score is one of my favorites... alongside Hans Zimmer, Gustavo Santaolalla, Joby Talbot, Angelo Badalamenti, John Barry and Ennio Morricone... too much to cram in to a Top 10 though, so it's understandable! ;^)

Thorpe: Have to say, not the biggest Elfman fan. I mean the Batman theme is freakin sick . . perhaps it deserves a place on the list. Damn, I knew it'd be hard to narrow it down to 10. crestfall: I fell in love with Requiem when it was first released. Then all the trailers came with their Lux Aeterna music and sort of trivialized the track if you ask me. Now if any movie uses that for their trailer, I immediately disregard it. CvaldaVess: Wow nice choices. Although I specicially wanted to stick to scores and in a way, not consider the composers. Just trying to think of scores that will instantly put you in the frame of mind of that particular movie - I mean where would Jaws be without that threatening 'danger approaching' music. I'll have to check out some of those composers though :)
