• Cradle Of Filth Discography Rankings

    19. Nov. 2012, 1:14

Cradle of Filth are one of my favorite bands. They might not make my top 10 or 15 but they have been a go to band whenever I need them. With the new album recently released, I wanted to rank each album.

    1. The Principle of Evil Made Flesh(1994) - 5/10, never gave it much of a chance but for what I have heard it's one of my least favorites, not bad for a debut.

    2. Dusk...and Her Embrace(1996) - 8/10, A lot of people consider this their best and it's def great but I believe it to be somewhat overrated. They started to find their sound being darkest and most atmospheric.

    3. Cruelty and the Beast(1998) - 9/10, Top two or three for me depending on my mood. The production is unique and cold sounding and this is the album they really found the classic Cradle sound.

    4. Midian(2000) - 10/10, The first album I heard and purchased and instantly fell in love with every song. A fan favorite and I believe Lord Abortion to be my favorite Cradle song ever. Classic.

    5. Damnation and a Day(2003) - 9/10, Its always my second or third favorite along with Cruelty and the Beast, like I said it just depends on my mood I guess. Probably their most progressive and experimental at this point in their discography. Along with an intro/outro, after every three full songs an interlude follows, which could either hurt or help the album depending on the person. The actual songs themselves are some of Cradle's best.

    6. Nymphetamine(2004) - 6.5/10, Maybe coming out only a year after Damnation and following three of their best albums, Nymphetamine got mixed reviews from about every other person, I myself enjoy it. The reason is this album lacked the atmosphere and many dynamics fans expected from them, it's straight to the point aggressive almost punk sounding at times, but the song writing is still very catchy in my opinion. I defended this album for years and still do.

    7. Thornography(2006) - 4/10, People who didn't like Nymphetamine really had something to bitch about when Thornography came out, and I agree. Honestly if this was a debut album by any random band, it would prob be a ok. The only thing that resembles the band is Dani's vocals, musically it's a total change in style and just rubs me the wrong way.

    8. Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder(2008) - 6/10, I rank this album around the same as Nymphetamine, I think long time fans who didn't like the last two will find a lot to like here, the song writing is a return to what they do best. Not Amazing, but a solid return after Thornography.

    9. Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa(2010) - 7/10, If fans were happy with the style return of Godspeed then DDVA should make a lot of people smile. I'm not gonna lie I feel like they released so many albums up to this point and felt they needed a break. but this is a great album and shouldn't be overlooked.

    10. The Manticore and Other Horrors(2012) - 8.5/10, This was a big surprise and right now a top album of 2012 for me. I'd say it's the best album since Damnation and a Day and a total style shift back to Damnation/Midian, great mix of melody and aggression, also love Dani's vocals and lyrics.

    Top Five
    1. Midian
    2.Cruelty/Damnation
    3. Damnation/Cruelty
    4. Dusk
    5. Manticore

    Very Good
    6. Darkly
    7. Nymphetamine

    The rest
    8. Godspeed
    9. Principle
    10. Thorn.
  • NOFX - Self Entitled Review

    13. Sep. 2012, 20:33

NOFX have been a band I've listened to for almost 20 years now. I'm 26 and was introduced to them by my sister and her punk rock friends back when I was about 9, "Punk In Drublic" I believe and I instantly was hooked. At 26 my music taste has gone in so many different directions over the years and NOFX have always been releasing quality after quality no matter how similar each album is or isn't.

    1. 72 Hookers - First time I heard it, I kept playing it, guitar intro/speeds up funny lyrics.8/10

    2. I Believe In Goddess - Old school hardcore/punk intro great lyrics. 7/10

    3. Ronnie & Mags - First single/released song from the album and not a forgettable one at all. Love the back and fourth vocals from Mike and Melvin and fun solo. 8/10

    4. She Didn't Lose Her Baby - Another really old school sounding intro and riffs, the first song we got to hear from the pre album e.p, the solo on the demo was better but really good. 9/10

    5. Secret Society - One of the few mid paced songs with a Bad Religion type of chorus that's simple but works. 7/10

    6. I Fatty - One of the best songs on the album, short but sweet with an amazing chorus, not sure if it's overall about Mike or just being an outcast in general. 9/10

    7. Cell Out - Instantly catches you off guard with the smooth metal guitar intro with some keyboards thrown in in between verse lines. This is probably about Mike's ex wife. very upbeat and catchy. 8/10

    8. Down With The Ship - The best song in my opinion on the album, pretty upbeat song with the best lyrics and an overall epic feeling. 10/10

    9. My Sycophant Others - Again keeping the overall sound of the album upbeat, fast and raw, one of my favorite sung songs. 8/10

    10. This Machine Is 4 - another solid song, not much to say except aggressive and catchy chorus. 7/10

    11. I've Got One Jealous Again Again - The second slower song on the album and most personal I'm guessing, being the sequel to "I've Got Two Jealous Agains" from "War On Errorism" about Mike's ex wife. Obviously they got a divorce and this is the break up one. I really love this song and the lyrics. 9/10

    12. Xmas Has Been X'ed - Great closer, it's very similar to past
NOFX songs but it's got one of the best choruses on the album, his vocals during the chorus reminds me of Billie Joe from Green Day. - 8/10

Overall it's just another solid album being more on the faster/aggressive side. If you always loved Nofx and most of their albums then you will like it and if you gave up years ago then you won't find anything new here. Overall a 8.1/10

  • Saves The Days Discography Ratings

    29. Apr. 2012, 9:18

Saves the Day is a band with seven albums, all seven albums sounding completely different so I decided to review each one and score it out of ten.

Can't Slow Down - 1998's debut isn't one of my favorite albums but it does have it's moments, compared a lot to the band Lifetime, although I'm not to familiar with Lifetime, I can't compare the two. For a debut it's very well done considering the age of the band at the time. 6/10

Through Being Cool - 1999's sophomore release is arguably the band's best and considered a classic in the genre. I was 12/13 when I bought it and to this day at 26 I can still throw it in and enjoy every song from start to finish. The band got popular right after, influencing the future wave of pop punk of the early/mid '00s. Saves The Day did it first before all the hype around emo/pop punk on mtv2 and fuse and they did it better. 9/10

Stay What You Are - In 2001 STD released their 3rd album, the hype around the band and album were at an all time high. This is my favorite STD album, The songs are less pop punk and more mellow traditional alternative rock anthems. I always thought Through Being Cool was my favorite but I just have a soft spot for the style change, different yet the same band. 10/10

In Reverie - The album that threw me off and I'm sure a lot of people. Songs are super experimental and put you in a dream like state upon first listen, the style change is so drastic, the only resemblance to the first 3 albums is the name on the booklet. Chris sounds like he smoked a blunt straight to the head before recording every song...After almost ten years I began to appreciate it little by little liking it a lot these days. Closed Minded? whatever I like it now and love the whole sound. 7/10

Sound The Alarm - At this point I was so far out of the genre completely, I lost touch with pop/punk and Saves The Day. I remember driving in Pennsylvania with my sister and brother-in-law, we stopped at a local record store and the bright orange album cover was asking me to pick it up and to my surprise STD had a new album out. My sister purchased it blindly and we listened to it. I hated this album then and am not to fond of it to this day. I understand now what Chris was going through but I hated the whole sound, vocals way to high not to mention the music being instantly not catchy...Nothing stayed with me. I have gone back recent years after enjoying later releases but only found a couple songs I like. 3/10

Under The Boards - When UTB was coming out I had come full circle with music and just about been listening to every genre I've ever liked and rediscovering bands I have lost touch with...Metal and Hardcore was my main fix for about 6 years but I remember waiting for this release. Saves The Day always changed styles with every release, even if I didn't like the last I decided to download it. To my surprise, Under The Boards was likeable, not as much as I like TBC, SWYA and IR but I liked a bunch of the songs. Not their greatest but not bad. 5/10

Daybreak - Of course Chris has had lineup changes with every album pretty much but this would be the first album in 3 years and with a complete new lineup. I remember seeing the release date but not getting overly excited, the last two albums weren't enough for me to fall back in love fully. Months after it's release I came across it on Amazon.com and read reviews, some great some just ok. I bought the album this past week and have been listening to in my car ever since. Love Daybreak so much I decided to listen to every STD album this week and compare to write these reviews. This is definitely the best album Chris has written since 2001's Stay What You Are and is my 3rd favorite now. The music is like a mix of the last two and In Reverie without the filler. It's heavy, melodic, moody, very dynamic and I like the vocals a lot, also the first album I've actually bought since Stay What You Are. 8/10

Each Saves The Day album has it's own unique sound, it just takes a little sinking in to fully appreciate Chris as a song writer and his ability to not write the same album twice. Sound The Alarm just doesn't click with me. I'm glad I rediscovered the band I discovered so many years ago, liking them more then ever, especially with a new album as good as Daybreak.
